PPD a vent

My closest friend from childhood is an odd duck. I know this. She is one of my BMS. She and her entire family are true academics, as in PhDs in offbeat areas.

We are canadian, but my friend did her post doc in the UK. She has subsequently gotten a job in the US. Her on/off bf of nearly a decade she was obsessed, he is unstable
Anyhow, she had a JOP ceremony about 6 months ago. Now, she is having a full wedding/reception in town. While I get that her parents are the ones pushing this, it's still odd, no?

Today I got an email invite to the wedding. FI is invited, which I was skeptical of initially, so that's good. Anyhow, the PPD is 3 days prior to my wedding. And an email invite!

This is a total indignant post. Of course I will attend and be super happy for her, but holy etiquette breaches, Batman!

  • No one should look displeased though. I share your dislike of the PPD, but if you can't attend graciously, you should decline. And if you realize while you are there that you've been duped, you should rise above it and cross them off your Christmas card list.
  • At 3 days prior to your wedding, you're going to be busy. I would decline and just say you have too much going on.

[QUOTE]3 days before my wedding you couldn't have paid me to go to a PPD. I had things to do, better thing than sitting around getting a cramp in my side-eye. Why not just decline and blame the timing? No one would blame you.

This made me LOL, and all of this is true. She really shouldn't take it personally if you decline.
