Hmm, not sure if this is tacky or not

Re: Hmm, not sure if this is tacky or not

  • The childcare part does not bother me too much.  I mean I wouldn't do it on facebook, but I'm not too bother by that.  Even if they kids' dad is around, he still might need help because of work issues or something.  Not everyone has the luxury to take time off of work.

The meals and money part is just ridiculous.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

[QUOTE]FB friend: Major surgery in a week, we need help with child care, meals and house work. If your able to help, please let me know.   And if u wana.help but live too far, monitary gifts are greatly appreciated (The second part is her own comment on her status) I understand she's having surgery, but even with that... isn't it weird to ask flat out for help with child care, food, house work and money?  Like, shouldn't you just wait for people to offer?

I just reread the OP and had been assuming she was a single mother---but she says, "<em>WE</em> need help with child care, etc."

    People are so obnoxious/inconsiderate.
  • I was with her for the daycare and housekeeping help, and even the meals (I'm on the emergency meals committee at my church, so I always have meals frozen and ready to give away.  I should own stock in an aluminium pan making company.)  But I draw the line at asking for money. She lost me there.  Maybe it's for medical care, because her insurance is insufficient, but I still wouldn't blast out the request on facebook.  That's what hospital social workers are there for.

My husband was very sick for a very long time, and while I never had to actively request assistance, it was always, always needed. And appreciated.

I think that's the sad part. Have enough faith in your family and friends to be decent enough to help you. I know this girl's H is military, but I've heard that military wives tend to become close friends and help each other out through deployments and stuff. I mean, what on earth did people do before facebook.

I think that whole thing is strange. I can see asking friends and relatives for help with childcare if you need it but a facebook status is weird. It gives too much information to too many people. Asking for money is disgusting, hopefully she is joking.

And by asking for help I mean calling them on the phone or going to talk to them in person. (your mom, sister, close friend...not facebook!)
  • Just got here, but yes it is totally tacky and inappropriate to do on FB. I SORT of understand the child care and meal thing, but the money thing is out of this world. That is just ridiculous! I am speechless.

[QUOTE]Yeah, the more I think about it I can't help but wonder... why can't your husband take care of meals and housework?  I also assume they have insurance, her H is military- so the money thing, ugh.

I was thinking the same thing.  Yes, it is royally tacky.  There was a church I attended where the congregation would bring ready to cook meals for families that were about to have a baby, or someone died, etc., but it was not announced or asked by the family - usually the pastor put something in the bulletin about it.  That is a bit different though.

LOL that post reminds me of my nephew's wife - after they had a JOP wedding, they planned a reception, and she kept whining on FB that no one wanted to come to their reception.  She also posted daily bare belly pics while pregnant and started every post (10 or more times a day) I love my man and its only xx days till our baby arrives!

Made me want to throw up....

If I wanted to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, I'd put shoes on the cat. image
