This weirded me out unnecessarily

I lurk on TB sometimes when I'm bored or when I need to be reminded that I don't want to be pregnant for a good long while. So I was being a weirdo and lurkin all up in this PIP thread where the girls were showing off their bellies. And lo and behold, there's this chick I went to high school with. She married her high school sweetheart and now they're having a baby. It's weird enough that my peer group is starting to reproduce now, but it's even stranger to me to find her on TB. I don't know why. I remember her linking her knot page to her FB profile once and thinking, "what a loser." And here I am a few years later :)

  • I know how you feel.  4 girls from my sorority are all due with their first kids within a month of each other and it makes me feel so old.  I'm not ready for my age group to be at that point.

  • I'm pretty sure she's the first one of my graduating class to have a kid. I feel like I'm in a little bubble on the message boards, and that no one I know IRL is supposed to be here. That's completely irrational and stupid, but it freaked me out a little. Like, what if she's lurking over here going "Well I'll be damned, looks like LC the drunken slut is actually tying the knot."

Hell yeah you are!!!  Oh, wait, I get it now.
  • I know what you mean! Many people that I graduated with got married last year, and a lot more are on baby #2 and #3.
  • I just don't feel old enough to have a kid. She's the same age I am and so is her H, but they've been married for a few years and I just wonder, "How in the living hell can you possibly already be in a good place to have a kid? Am I doing it wrong?"

  • That is weird that you found someone you know on TB.

I think some people just really want to be moms right away and that is their "thing" in life, like that's what they are meant to be/do.  It's perfectly fine but I'm not there yet.

  • You are not doing it wrong at all, lady! Chances are that they aren't really stable at all, and their pregnancies were unplanned. At least that is the case with the majority of the people that I graduated with.

See that's the thing: I think they're just doing really well. And that's awesome. He's an engineer and I don't know what she does. I used to keep up with her more, then I deleted everyone I didn't talk to on FB, so I don't keep up with them from afar, like I used to. And thanks! I mean, FI and I are doing just fine, we're just not in any kind of position to have a baby. This couple just doesn't strike me as the type to have an unplanned pregnancy. I'm sure they planned it and that's awesome. They're just really young and it blows my mind that they're able to do this.

I can understand that. There is a girl that graduated a year before me, and she owns a home, is on pregnancy #2, married etc. She's only 24, and I can definitely see how some people can make it happen being that young.
  • Oh, I fully believe people we know lurk, considering that's how I started posting on E in the first place.  That creeps me out.  I'm afraid to even change my sig pic to one of ME instead of the doggeh.

Also, yeah...I feel like H and I are doing good, but holy moly having a child right now would be hard.
  • I got this way a lot with the house thing. One of my old roomies is doing well enough for herself that she was able to afford a townhouse in a very nice area that's priced at more than twice my house...and she's paying for it herself.

Then I have most of my friends who are already on kid #2, and kid #1 will be old enough to babysit my kid once I have one!

Although what gets me now is when my slightly oldercollege friends who swore they would never have kids before 30 are suddenly having babies...and I realize they are 30!
  • Someone Nick went to school with recognized me on here.  I was embarrassed because it was a post where I was upset about a job.  I felt like a weenie.

  • Well dont feel bad....I just found out like two years ago that my family had a bet going to see how many kids I would have by the time I was 25. I have always LOVED kids! I'm naturally a dork...so they find me entertaining lol Well, here I am, 24 years old, just now getting married and kid free. My sister has 3 kids that will be able to babysit mine by the time I have them. All of my younger cousins have popped out one or two. Everyone around me is popping out babies left and right....and I feel proud that all of my family lost their stupid bet. There are other ways to be around kids...I dont need to have a freaking litter of them for crying out loud lol I am very happy with where I am in life right now...I'm going to live it up and have as much fun as possible before I take the massive leap of responsibility that is required to have children. :)
