I possibly have pneumonia. YAY!

My doctor refused to write me a prescription for my cough until I have a chest x-ray. She said she can hear the rattle in my lungs without a stethoscope. I'm oddly happy about this, because surely a diagnosis of pneumonia relieves me of any guilt associated with calling out of work after a week on vacation. Chest x-ray scheduled for tonight. Yay?

Re: I possibly have pneumonia. YAY!

  • Oh poops Manda. I'd say that's a pretty valid excuse.

  • Yuck.  You poor thing.  Here's hoping for just bad bronchitis?  No, I guess that's almost as bad.  Feel better soon!
  • It could just be bronchitis.  I used to see the Nurse Practitioner at my Dr's office because it was quicker to get in, and I had bronchitis every year for about 4 years straight.  I knew what it was and all the symptoms.  The first time she insisted I get a chest x-ray, so I did, and it proved that I was right and it was just bronchitis.  So i refused to get one after that.

But hey, even if it's just bronchitis, I think a week off of work is still in order.

  • Ick.  Well, at least it looks like you'll get a better diagnosis than just a cold!  That's all our student health service will ever tell you.

If it is pneumonia, won't antibiotics kick it?  If that is true, it's better than a virus, which you just have to wait out.  I hope you feel better soon!

ETA - apparently not; thanks for the correction.  Hope it's NOT pneumonia, dear!
  • Ew. Stupid germy kids all up in Disney.

  • Bronchitis and pneumonia can both be either viral or bacterial.  The name is just where the infection is at.  Either way they aren't fun. Get better soon!

  • Pneumonia isn't really something to be joking about. It's serious. I've had it four freaking times and it's very dangerous. Here's hoping it's just bronchitis.

Yay!! So get that funk outta town and get on with it!! :)
  • Intense dislike.

Take care of yourself, Manda.  I had pneumonia a few years ago for a month.  It sucked.  Get lots of rest and don't push it.  It takes awhile to get out of your system.

  • Yuck!  I'm sorry, Manda, I hope you feel better soon.  Stupid menonmiana.

  • That sucks, hope you feel better soon. I've had pneumonia about 9 times or so (thanks, asthma) so I feel your pain. Get lots of rest!
  • Ick. I hope you feel better and its not pneumonia, even though another week off of work would be nice.

I have been fighting a cough myself for 2 wks that I hope hasn't went into bronchitis. I keep going back and forth between telling myself that it is just congestion and that I need to go to the Dr even though I really hate going to the dr.
  • Yuck Manda. That sucks. Especially after just returning from, what I assume (if you weren't sick there), was a great vacation.
