Holiday Poll

Re: Holiday Poll

  • Our christmas tree growing up was always an ornament explosion.  Our tree now is a very matchy tree with a few random ornaments stuck in.  My mom went through all the ornaments last year and put them in boxes for my brother and I to take ours, but I didn't take it yet because i didn't want to move it.  I probably won't put a tree for 2 years anyways since H is likely to be gone next year too, so hopefully I get my ornaments before I put the tree up next.

Stuffing) What kind of decor do you like when you decorate?
I loooooovvveee christmas lights. You can never have too many lights.

    Noel) Real or fake tree?
I grew up with fake but have had real the past two years because of FI. I am now in love.

Mistletoe) Best thing about the holidays?
Seeing family, the coziness of a cold night with xmas lights and holiday songs.

Snowflake) Anything on your wish list?
Haven't thought about it yet. I'm still working on a bday list. Good old fashion money is always welcome though.

Hannukah)  Have you thought about what to get your S/O?
Nope not yet. His bday is on Christmas, so it makes it extra difficult. We might try to go in on something for the house together.

Frosty the snowman) Favourite family tradition?
Opening presents on Christmas eve and playing games. Also having my brother Todd come to visit (he's my half brother so he spends time with his mom's side as well)
  • Last year we had a mechanical Frosty fishing for presents on our tree. :)

  • Stuffing) What kind of decor do you like when you decorate?   Traditional. Most of my ornaments are ornaments I had gotten as a child or handed down through the family.

Noel) Real or fake tree? REAL!!! Love opening my door the first couple days after the tree is up and getting hit by that pine smell!

Mistletoe) Best thing about the holidays? Seeing family & friends, cooking, baking

Snowflake) Anything on your wish list? Um...not anything I can think of offhand. I'll have to look at our registry again and see if there's anything left I might really want. But we bought a lot after the wedding we wanted for the kitchen.  But I'm sure if Jillian Michaels' new dvd is out, it will be on that list.

Hannukah)  Have you thought about what to get your S/O?   We agreed on an amount to spend and we are going to make lists for each other

Frosty the snowman) Favourite family tradition? Well I miss the old days when we used to all gather at my grandparents' house. The kids would all play in the basement while the adults played poker.
    Crosswalk
  • Stuffing) What kind of decor do you like when you decorate?
    SPARKLE LIGHTS!!!

    Noel) Real or fake tree?
Fakity. I had a really bad real tree experience when I was a teenager.

Mistletoe) Best thing about the holidays?
The super special feeling in my heart.

Snowflake) Anything on your wish list?
    A metal stamper. World peace.

Hannukah)  Have you thought about what to get your S/O?
He told me what he wants, but I already forgot what it is.

Frosty the snowman) Favourite family tradition?
    Ornament exchange.

  • Stuffing) What kind of decor do you like when you decorate? Simple and understated. Nothing gaudy or over the top.

Noel) Real or fake tree? Fake. We just bought it a few weeks ago.

Mistletoe) Best thing about the holidays? All the food. (I would say family time, but DH and I are on our own this year)

Snowflake) Anything on your wish list? Not really. I think I've outgrown wanting gifts.

Hannukah)  Have you thought about what to get your S/O? We decided to go see a show (The Lion King. Yay!) and have a nice dinner a few weeks before instead of exchanging gifts.

Frosty the snowman) Favourite family tradition? Eating breakfast together then opening all the gifts. We would take turns so everyone could see what everyone else got and it made it all last a little longer.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Holiday Poll : No! I yelled at H the other day because we've been up here for almost a year and we haven't done any exploring yet. We go to Walmart, Kohl's, that people's plaza center or something with the movie theater, his brothers house in Elkton, Redners or Acme in Elkton, Woody's for crab cakes and his brothers bar in PA. Its so pathetic.

<div>Definitely try the Martins. Its quite large and has a lot of offer food wise.  You guys should just drive around the county on the weekends. Not that there is a hell of a lot to do, but there is a lot of cool stuff to see. </div>

  • Stuffing) What kind of decor do you like when you decorate?  I put up vintage stockings from my dad's childhood and my brother's stocking and my stocking my grandmother had handmade for us. There's a large (like 12+ year) age gap between us and the next set of grandchildren, so none of that stuff meant anything to them.  A tree, a Hawaiian card holder with quilt patterns, a scherenschitte tree version of the 12 days of Christmas, and a photo of my brother and me with Santa. Oh, and I pull out my Christmas gnomes. and the tree. J doesn't have any Christmas stuff except a small Grinch, and we leave that out.

Noel) Real or fake tree?  We had a fake tree my first year here (no tree my first one visiting), and a real tree this year. We're not decorating this year, I don't think.

Mistletoe) Best thing about the holidays?  Being with family, the snow, the lights (I love multicolored lights, especially on outdoor trees, reflecting on the snow), and the chance to have lots of side dishes and desserts I love.

Snowflake) Anything on your wish list?  iPad, hotspot, Huggable Hangers.

Hannukah)  Have you thought about what to get your S/O?
We'll see, when I see if I get a merit bonus and what I have left. I'd like to get him the hand vac he wants (the Dyson one).

Frosty the snowman) Favourite family tradition?
Mine would be waiting until Christmas Day to open presents and having buckwheat cakes with spiced oranges (used to  be grapefruit and oranges, but mom can't have them anymore). I'm not fond of opening all on Christmas Eve, like J's family does, so I save my family's for the next day. And I DON'T like the joke gift exchange thing they do.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • Both DH and I grew up with ornament explosions, so thankfully we are doing the same. He has a box of ornaments that his mom packed up for him and I've collected a few over the years. Last year we didn't have enough, so we bought a few nice ones to fill in the gaps.

I'm really excited about this year's tree because we went all out and it'll be our first married Christmas, so I'm excited to start some new traditions with just the 2 of us.

  • Stuffing) What kind of decor do you like when you decorate?    The sparklier the better :)  I try to go mostly silver and red with a little bit of green.  I don't really have that much stuff.

Noel) Real or fake tree?  I loved real when I was younger, but H and I just have a little fake one for our apartment

Mistletoe) Best thing about the holidays?  gift giving, food and music

Snowflake) Anything on your wish list?  the TV and sofa we've gotten for our new apartment are our presents to each other and they make me SUPER happy so that's it :)

Hannukah)  Have you thought about what to get your S/O?  see above.

Frosty the snowman) Favourite family tradition?  eating cinnamon buns for Christmas breakfast.  Turns out H's family had the same tradition so it's perfect.

<div>Long story short, we got one from a local tree farm and everything was great with it until just before Christmas when I was looking at the tree and it just seemed...off. Upon closer inspection, it was encased in spider webs. The whole tree was infested. We had to get rid of it ASAP and ended up not having a tree for Christmas. </div><div>
</div><div>Luckily however, it seemed that most of the spiders confined themselves to the tree. </div><div>
</div><div>After that, only fakes for me.</div>

  • Stuffing: Colorful, but I don't really do snowmen or Santas, or angels or any of that jazz. I just add the tree, some greenery, and then some pillows, table runner, etc. in reds and golds.

Noel: Fake. I'm deathly allergic, which makes the holiday season suck a little bit.

    Mistletoe: Cookies

Snowflake: I'm hoping for a really kickass chef's knife. Aside from that, clothes or GCs for them.

Hannukah: I'm thinking maybe an iPad, if I can save up for it. He really wants one and his laptop is crapping out, so this might be a good substitute until he can replace it.

Frosty: Again, probably the cookies. His parents' house is like a dang cookie factory during the month of December.

OMG I have spider nightmares all of the time. I'm going to have to put this out of my mind before we buy our tree this year!!
  • Stuffing) What kind of decor do you like when you decorate?
At my parent's house it was all the crochet decorations my great aunt made over the years. At our house I like going with nature: lots of sparkle lights and greenery, candles in hurricane vases and pointsettas. I wish we had a mantle to put garlands on. We hang our stockings on the bookcase.

    Noel) Real or fake tree?
Real! It is a family event every year. We drive down to Saratoga and up to the tree farms in the mountains. We always go to the same farm and have ever since I can remember. My sister and I run like maniacs through the trees looking for the PERFECT trees for everyone. We get a large tree for my parents, a medium tree for us and a smaller (no more than 6 feet tall in the base) for my sister. It's awesome. :)

Mistletoe) Best thing about the holidays?
Seeing family, driving home in the dark to see the houses all decorated with lights, the smell of the tree in the house.

Snowflake) Anything on your wish list?
    A kindle and a yarn swift. :)

Hannukah)  Have you thought about what to get your S/O?
A little. I usually try to make him a new shirt every year.

Frosty the snowman) Favourite family tradition?
Well, cutting down Christmas trees is a big one. Then we usually go to my parent's house the next weekend to decorate their tree, which is like the family tree. H and I usually put the lights on (at LEAST 4 strands, the more the better!) and after we place all the ornaments we drink hot cocoa and my sister sneaks back into the front room to rearrange them all to her liking. Heh.
