Re: Seriously?

• I know I'm supposed to be all WHOA! at the cake but I've seen the cake before. This is the first time I've really noticed the DRESS.

How do you even find that?

"You know, I think I want to go with the traditional white, probably strapless, and if we could work in a weird front panel of paisley somehow, that would be STELLAR."

I will say I have never been to a wedding that didn't have the bridal portrait out. I didn't know that it wasn't normal until I came here. In the south, even the classiest and fanciest of weddings have the portrait out for people to see.

Because of this tradition, I put mine out. People can say what they want here and it doesn't really bother me.

I do like being able to look at bridal portraits of mothers and grandmothers in my family as well as in DH's family.

Anyway. That's my un-related (but slightly) two cents.
• ummm... self centered much? That is just odd, and probably cost a butt load.

• Oh, and to be related to this post, that cake is RIDICULOUS.

Jess, I didn't mean it offensively. I personally have never seen a bridal portrait displayed nor did I know they existed. I don't feel one way or another about them. I know some girls here do not like/understand/prefer them and I think this cake is FAR worse than a portrait.
• No worries. :)

Because I know that lots of people protest the idea of a bridal portrait, I tend to feel the need to educate those that don't understand that it's a traditional thing in the south, and those that don't do it are viewed as "Whoa, they couldn't afford to do bridals? That's tacky."

Don't feel bad or anything, I'm all puppies and rainbows over here. :D
• I've never seen a wedding with a bridal portrait, but I've also never been to one where they didn't play the Pennsylvania Polka and I will be HEARTBROKEN AND MY WHOLE DAY WILL BE RUINED AND MY WEDDING WON'T BE REAL if it's not played at mine and I am only SLIGHTLY exaggerating.

But I bet the Pennsylvania Polka doesn't make it down south too much.

I just wasn't sure if my post gave the impression that I didn't like them.

TJ, the PA polka? Never head of it. That said, I have never been to a wedding that didn't have a bridal/dollar dance. Its the norm in my area and my family was actually surprised when I said I would not be doing one.

Edit: I have heard it. They play that at all the church picnics! haha

SERIOUSLY? I haven't been to a wedding, or a picnic or a fireowrks show or... anything... that didn't play the Pennsylvania Polka. Weird!

All the ones I've been to have included the dollar dance as well. I won't be doing one, but I haven't announced that to anyone but my mom yet, who feels the same way I do about it. crfische brought up a point I hadn't thought of a while ago, though - in areas where it is just the "done" thing, some people can actually be offended when you don't do one - like you're acting like you're above the tradition everyone else does.

Regardless, I'm not doing it. I mean, people can feel free to hand me dollars all night if they want, I'm not gonna cry about it. But I am not dancing with them.

• Oh, my. I've not heard this before. It's making me laugh a little. I see how that could be really fun.

Luckily, the dolllar dance is reserved for the klassie weddings in my area. People that are actually classy run as far away from them as possible.
• I don't think I am above anyone, I just dont feel comfortable doing it. Oh well, they will get over it.

Do you remember that man that lived under the mall for a year? or so? I still can't understand how it took them so long to find him when the police head quarters was a skip and a jump away from him. Oh scranton!

• Scranton is so small and strange sometimes. I was looking at your bio and became convinced that you (along with probably everyone else on the NEPA board) probably know at least one member of my family - like my sister (from either the fact that she has 20+ tattoos and probably got most of them at your fiance's shop, or the fact that she likes the Bog a lot or the fact that she works at Pappa's) or my cousin Slug because... he's 6'6" and really hard to miss.

• Thats really funny. My friends uncle owns or manages the bog and I love Pappas! I became fb friends with mrm and we actually have mutual friends. Are you or your sister my age? I am 22.

• I'm 28 and she's 26. I'm sure we know some of the same people just by virtue of the fact that everyone knows pretty much everyone. She's been there her whole life, I left after high school (we both went to Abington).

I also love Pappas and could go for a cheesesteak like nobody's business right now. I keep meaning to buy plane tickets for the first or second week of Feb and I am sure I'll end up eating there at least twice.
