looking for the woman with blue crinolines

I've been lurking and have seen a woman who had her crinolines either dyed blue or custom made with blue tulle.  I know that this is not the attire board, but I am wondering if she's still out there and may have any hints as to how she achieved this look.  (or if anyone else has any tips those are welcome also!)  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Re: looking for the woman with blue crinolines

  • Her name is Rachael and I know she dyed it with Rite dye or something like that.

  • RachnRich is who you seek. You can also find her on SB.
  • Rachnrich has the blue one as others have said.

Someone else (forgot her name now) on the Aug. 2010 board just died hers, and she gave a "how-to" in her bio - if you're looking for that.

  • You know what? I have an AWFUL time with Michael (Micheal) and your name. I have friends with it spelled both ways and I can never get it right. I'm so sorry love :(

  • Well, I'll just give the run down here anyways, and you can feel free to PM me if you have any additional questions!

I purchased a full white crinoline, and hand dyed it using a full bottle of liquid RIT dye (they have a wide range of colors, so you could go with just about anything). I filled a 30/40 gallon tupperware container (used for packing stuff in---no worries about staining a bathtub that way) with hot water, mixed the dye in, and smooshed the criny in afterwards. The pain-in-the-butt part was that you must stir/swish the criny around for the better part of a half hour to make sure the dye covers all parts of the criny evenly; it'd be a good idea to have rubber cleaning gloves, lest you dye your hands. I let it soak for about 15 minutes after stirring it, and then rinsed it out in our old work sink, and popped it in the washing machine (sans detergent) and hung it on a hanger to air dry.

Like I said, feel free to PM me if you have any questions! Laughing

  • I think not knowing your way aroudn is the absolute worst. I had to get a GPS and it made life so much better.

  • Thank you so much!  I hadn't thought of dyeing my crinolines until I saw your pictures.  I absolutely LOVE the look, but the ladies at the dress shop were not terribly encouraging.  I'm very excited to try it!  Thanks again for the advice!
