Chocolate chip recipes?

My co-worker's birthday is Friday.  She loves chocolate chip cookies.  I've been designated the dessert maker but I suck at chocolate chip cookies.  They never turn out well for me for some reason.

Anyone have some kind of chocolate-chip-esque recipes I could make?  I was thinking of doing a chocolate chip cookie pizza thing, but my pizza pan has holes in it so I don't think it would work for baking.  Thoughts?

PS: I'm willing to do cookies if someone has an absolutely outstanding, no-fail, idiot-proof one.

Re: Chocolate chip recipes?

  • Step one:  open chocolate chip bag
    Step two:  open mouth
    Step three:  insert chocolate chips.

Easy peasy :)  But seriously, someone posted these cookie bite things before, I think it was Georgia.

This is from Martha Stewart and you make it in a skillet.  It would be hard to transport though.

If you like softer cookies, I also have a good recipe for that.

I've never made one, but it's rated Easy. I tried to make the minis (Gooey Cookie Pie Bites I posted last week), and they all stuck in the pan, but with a large pie, you don't have to worry about that.
  • Ooh, those cookie bites look awesome.  Definitely a contender.

I think the skillet would be too hard to transport and I wouldn't be able to serve it warm, but I do like soft cookie recipes!

  • Here you go!  They are my favorite!

    JELLO PUDDING CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

    2 1/4 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. butter, softened
    1/4 c. granulated sugar
    3/4 c. light brown sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg. (4 serving size) chocolate instant pudding
    2 eggs
1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
    1 c. chopped nuts, optional
Combine butter, the sugars, vanilla and the pudding mix in large bowl, beat until smooth and creamy. Beat in the eggs. Gradually add flour and soda; then stir chips and nuts. Batter will be stiff.

Drop by rounded teaspoons about 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes about 7 dozen.

  • Um, I am a fan of anything involving pudding.  Win.

  • Yeah, it keeps the cookies moist for days.  You can only taste the pudding when they are fresh from the oven so make sure you snack on some when they are fresh.

  • You could do a chocolate chip cookie pizza, and get a new pan...they sell them at a pretty low price at Wal-Mart. Considering it's just for a cookie pizza, you can buy the cheapest one they have.

We also cheat often and by the premade dough from Pillsbury. We buy the family-sized roll of dough and just flatten it out on the pan. To keep the dough from getting sticky on your hands, put a layer of plastic wrap on top of the dough.

    Seriously, it's idiot proof.
  • Yum.  Now I want cookies.  Thanks, guys!

  • I made chocolate chip cookies from some rando recipe I found online a couple weeks ago and they were amazing. They had vanilla pudding in them, but I imagine you could use other puddings too (think butterscotch or whatever).

  • I third or fourth or whatever the ones with pudding in them- I always make these and use French Vanilla.  Everyone raves over them, and they're super easy.

  • I use the Ghridelli (sp?) recipe and its super good and easy.  I find any recipe with crisco is bad news.  Those never turn out.

  • I swear by the Neiman Marcus $250 cookie recipe.

    http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/fooddrink/a/cookie_recipe.htm

Cut it in half and swap out half of the butter for crisco.  Puffy, chewy chocolate chip cookies every time! It's our family baking secret.
  • Just line your pizza pan with foil.

  • I have Oreo pudding mix in the cupboard...I wonder how those would turn out?

  • Here is a link to a website with the BEST thing in the world with chocolate chips. I would skip putting it in the fridge though (it gets too hard). It is REALLY good warm and with a little vanilla ice cream on top!

(I also skip the nuts-just because I think they're gross!)
  • ahh shelly  Crisco is the KEY to good cookies!!!

I make the nestle cookies all the time with just 2 big changes and everyone thinks its some secret family recipe.

1- exchange the butter for crisco in exact amounts
2- better choc chip- gihradelli (spelling is soo wrong but I am to lazy to correct it)

oh and major things to keep in mind.  Use only a fork to blend in the eggs, mixer equals bad cookies!  And make sure your baking soda is not expired, that will make any cookie recipe go bad.

Black Bottom Cupcakes are half the reason FI is marrying me. And I'm not kidding, they're the reason he started talking to me in the first place!!!

For chocolate chip cookies, this is my fave receipe, turns out perfectly for me every time:

  • I agree with the pudding recipe!! It's the best recipe I've ever found, and dissappears within a day if not hours of being made. They're so easy and awesome! I've also added butterscotch pudding with toffee pieces for people who don't like chocolate and those went even faster than the choc chip ones! What a sweet co-worker you are, I'm sure she'll love whatever you bake!
