My FFIL has tons (about 50) distant relatives (aunts, uncles, cousins) that live in Canada. I have never met them in the 3.5 years I have been with FI and he used to see them about twice every 5 years during his childhood. They are not invited to the wedding because we want to keep the guest list small, only close family and friends (about 100 people).
FFIL and FMIL want to host a party a few months after the wedding as a type of "meet and greet" for the Canadian relatives to meet me. As FFIL put it to FI: for them to meet his bride. Other relatives invited to the wedding might attend this party too. FFIL and FMIL said this party would not include gifts.
I was concerned about the mention of "no gifts" on the invitation but FI said his family does not "do invitations" they prefer to call and invite. FI as assured me that whoever is calling to invite will not mention gifts at all.
Is this party breaking any rules?
