Envelopes

We did ivory for our STDs. But as I'm getting closer to mailing out invitations, I'm wondering if many others are sticking with the traditional white/ivory envelopes or opting for colorful ones.

What did you do?

Re: Envelopes

  • We're doing white, but not because we're opposed to color, they just went best with the invitations I picked out.
  • I designed my own invites...I ordered burgundy envelopes that matched my invites.
  • We used white envelopes, but we did add a blue liner on the inside to jazz it up a little bit.

If we had an option for color envelopes, we would have used them.  But that wasn't an option, so white it was.

  • If the other colors are a good price and very light and easy to read once written on, then go for it. I just don't personally see the point in spending extra money on the envelopes. Even if people do keep the invitation itself, everyone is going to throw away the envelope.

  • We used Ecru for the outer and brown pockfolds inside.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I did a shimmery brown with pink wraparound labels.

  • Our invites were ecru and navy, so we used ecru envelopes. They had a fancy border printed along the bottom, though :) so I suppose they weren't all that traditional. I'm obsessed with my wedding invites, haha.

Colored envelopes aren't bad as long as the addresses are legible and as long as the color goes well with your invitations.
  • we designed our own invitations with the help of a graphic designer - the inner/outer envelopes were ecru.  The inner envelope had some art work and a honesucle pink liner - also with some art work.

  • If you want to do a colored envelope, I would suggest using a gel pen to write the addresses on the envelope.  Like I said ours were burgandy.  I used a gold gel pen to write the addresses, and it was quite easy to read.

If your envelopes are lighter in color use a dark gel pen, if they are darker, use a lighter colored gel pen.
  • I've gotten multiple wedding invitations and STD in the mail this year (invited to three weddings), and I couldn't tell you what color the envelopes are.  I do keep them though.  I hang them on the frige by the flap and keep the invitation and the directions inside.

Yeah.  This.  I barely remember invites and sure don't remember envelopes.

  • Off-white with a dark purple liner.

  • Mine are while with a black interior flap.  My wedding colors are black and white, so it worked to stay with the black and white on the invitations, as I wanted them to look simple and clean.

  • We did white because that's what came with the invitations.  If a color would have come with the invites, I'd have done that.  I thought briefly about doing the color lining, but it was an added expense for something people would just throw away.
