So, what's everyone doing for Valentine's Day??

Any fun suggestions??I think we're going to grab lobsters in Chinatown (a little sketchy!) and make lobster rolls and drink champagne.  Low-key and cost effective :)

What do you guys have on tap?

  • We didn't expect my husband to be home this week (he works out of state a few weeks at a time and when he's home and when he's gone is just random with no scheduled pattern), so we made no plans. It will be just a normal Thursday.

  • Nothing for Thursday yet, but for the past several years, BF and I have attempted to make Pad Thai for V-day... We'll be doing that again on Friday night and because I don't have to work on Saturday, I think we're going for breakfast too. I normally get him a card and some valentines day Little Debbie Cakes.

  • My bf gets out of work late, so I'll probably watch Glee, eat a late dinner late dinner and maybe watch a movie or something.
Valentine's Day is on a Thursday this year, which is funny because that's pretty much what we always do on Thursdays. It'll probably just feel like any other Thursday, which is honestly fine with me.

  • SInce our wedding is in 10 days I told him he didn't have to get me a gift. I was going to go get him a card and suddenly decided to stop by the adult shop instead. He will get a pleasant surprise! We also decided to order pizza for delivery for dinner since we have been on a wedding diet for 6 months and honestly nothing sounds better than pizza lately!

  • I have a crazy day at work tomorrow, so we're just going out for a low-key dinner and then maybe getting some candy. It's nothing super-romantic, but it's exactly what I want :)

  • Fi has to work 2-11pm, so not much. I'll probably make him some brownies or something, and we'll do cards since he's such a sucker for sappy cards!

  • Since we're in weddingsaving mode, the plan was only spending 10 or so each. So, I planned on a card and some chocolate for him. Then last night, we decided we're giving up chocolate and alcohol for Lent, so now it's just a card. I think we're using a groupon for dinner at a new seafood place.

    LOL...

I'm thinking I might cook dinner.  Maybe if I can find some good looking steaks.  Have a nice evening at home.

We're not exchanging gifts, BUT I asked FI to buy me some good candy for V-day.  (I've learned that sometimes you just have to ask for things you want instead of hope they get it, and then get disappointed when they don't).  However, he may still forget.  If he does, oh well, I tried.  I'll buy my own candy.  But it's fun when someone else buys it, and it's reeealllly good.

  • We don't celebrate. :(

H's birthday was yesterday though so we are, however, having a romantic getaway weekend this weekend to celebrate. Splurging on an awesome hotel with heated tiles, hot tub, the works. I'm stoked.
  • Thursday shakes out to be pretty inconvenient for us, so we're officially celebrating on Sunday. We're both into cooking, so we put together a romantic custom menu, go to the best grocery store in town for premium ingredients, then spend most of the day making multi course gourmet meal while eating artisan cheeses and sipping wine. It's over the top decadant and I love it I'm definately repeating the chocolate covered strawberries injected with godiva liquer this year. Oh man those were great. Oh! I'm also going to break out some lingere that I totally found by following a link Sydaries posted to mock the crazy lady who hated fake boobs. Thanks Sydaries! :p

[QUOTE]Between many many years of being single, and growing up with parents who despised the holiday, it's not something we do.

I did however find a box of pumpkin Poptarts during a visit to my small town over the weekend, that I'm going to wrap and give to FI at breakfast tomorrow. He wanted some so badly this past Fall and we looked and looked and could never find them here in KC. I found it pretty funny to spot them a Southeast Kansas Walmart in February.

They make pumpkin pop tarts?! I've never seen or hear of them before I want to try them haha.

My fiancé and I aren't big valentines day people I'm making a rust roast and mashed potatoes and all that and he's picking up some red wine, then we plan some quality time playing video games.... Oh we're so lame. :D

  • The joys of being married to a chef is you don't celebrate V-day.     He is too busy cooking dinner for a packed dining room.

Seriously, we have never celebrated V-day.  Not a card or anything.

  • I got H a card and some Reese's hearts.  I gave them to him already since I didn't expect him to be home tomorrow.  We have no plans, although it looks like he may be home for at least part of the day tomorrow.  He's better at sappy than I am so I expect to cry over a card tomorrow and he'll probably either bring me flowers or chocolate or both.

We aren't doing anything tomorrow, but will probably go to dinner this weekend. I got him a rainbow sock monkey from Pier 1 because he mentioned he thought they were cool looking, a box of Reese's hearts, and 1600 XBox Live points. I always get up before him so I will put them on the drivers seat of his car tomorrow morning so he'll be surprised when he gets in to go to work.

  • We're going out to a nice seafood place here that gets their fish flown in fresh every day (unheard of for my city!) It is pricey so we really only eat here once a year, but it's right on the river and you can see the skyline of our city across the river and it's just pretty. And delicious. Alcohol will definitely be had also. Then we'll probably come home and watch a movie.

  • FI is picking me up from work, taking me grocery shopping and then I'm going to make dinner :P

We're going back to CA for a few days on Saturday, so we wanted to keep things easy.

  • In the morning before H goes to work we are going to the county records department to get a copy of our marriage certificate. When he gets home we'll order pizza and he'll probably play Chivalry on his computer while I watch Beyond Scared Straight on mine. I have a card for him, but he has probably forgotten that it is Valentine's tomorrow.

  • We'll celebrate a year since FI proposed!   He said he knew that Valentine's Day had been rough for me in long years of being single and wanted to give it a happy significance for the future.  He's been working long hours at two jobs while launching his practice, so we haven't seen much of each other lately.

The best part of tomorrow will be seeing him!!!  He's working tomorrow night at the restaurant, but once things slow down, he'll let me know and I'll join him there dinner (seeing him + quality time? incontheivable!!!).

I'll cook him a special dinner on either Friday night or whenever the next night is he isn't working.  My mother always made my dad a V-day cake or dessert, and FI liked the one I made him last year so much that he proposed again ... and wants it for his groom's cake.  I don't really think I can top that one, but I'm going to try mini peanut butter cheesecakes (made in the foil cupcake liners) with an Oreo at the bottom as the "crust".  Can't go wrong with chocolate and peanut butter for FI ... he once joked that they were on his family's coat of arms.  Laughing
  • SO asked what I wanted to do and I said I wanted to do all the planning for a change. He's taking premarital classes, I have flowers on my end table from a few days ago, he takes me out to dinner each week, he's been watching wedding movies, I just want to give the poor guy a break.

I'm making him spaghetti, chocolate dipped strawberries, strawberry marguritas, and giving him a backrub. He's taking off work which is surprising because holidays are very busy.

I'm also really thankful he told me a week ago that propsing on Valentine's Day is too cliché. We just picked up my ring on Monday and instead of wondering 'what if' I'm actually enjoying that we'll have a low key night.

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday! Smile

I'm in this boat. Although, H is the head waiter and wine steward instead of Chef.

We might go to dinner on Monday if he can get the night off.
  • The same thing we do every Thursday... Try to take over the WORLD! We currently have no plans. We usually get each other cards and last year FI proposed. Even for that we were just at home and I made dinner as usual. Normally Vday is pretty low key for us.

Ah yes, life as a restaurant widow.  Holidays?  What are those?   :P

We were living in the islands when we first met.  This time of year is crazy busy.  Not just for V-day, but people just on vacation (president's day weekend is always around).   By the time we could do something special it just seems forced to celebrate it on a different day.  So we don't even try.  We do nice things for each other throughout the year anyway.

  • We can't see each other til tomorrow, but we are going to the restaurant where we had our first real date (and also where our rehearsal dinner will be held!) and then going to see Safe Haven, since FI can't complain on Valentines day! Truth be told, I'm hoping for some flowers. I just love the whole hoopla

I got him some reese's hearts, a heart shaped box of snickers and twix, and a small gift card to the App store, since he is obsessed with his iPad but doesn't like spending money on games.

  • I served for years so I avoid restaurants like the plague on vday, we cook instead. Last year was rack of lamb (yum!) and tonight we're doing stuffed salmon filets.

FI got his tool chest that he's been pining for which was stuffed with candy this morning and he got me my wristlet for the wedding.

As a choco-holic this wedding diet is sucking particularly bad today.
