save the date question

my wedding is not for a while but I have a question regarding when to send out save the dates.

our wedding is being held about 45-55 minutes from where our family and friends live (at a winery). while it is not really "destination" per se, I was wondering how many months in advance we should send out save the dates. so far, almost everyone we've talked to plans to stay in the area since it's a distance.

for the sake of booking hotels and what not, what's everyone's advice?

I see your date is not for another couple of years.  I wouldn't send them out until about 6 months out and block the hotel rooms around the same time. Its not local but it is only just a car ride compared to a plane ride away.

Your wedding isn't until October 2012.  I wouldn't even *consider* STDs until late spring 2012.
