A Cup of Jo - blog

One of my favorite bloggers made me sad today when I saw this post. Then I read the comments; everyone is agreeing with her which made it even worse.

  • The chick in the comments who honeymooned in bora-bora and tahiti and what not... ya, you really needed to use a honeymoon fund for this trip?

    The blogger had flights on there... that's just rude.

  • I normally love this blog (been following Joanna for years) but I had no idea she did this. I thought she saved up for a Honeymoon like most people.

    As a bride who will have no honeymoon, this just makes me extra sad.

    [QUOTE]Andplusalso? I never understand why certain people can't grasp the idea that your family and friends can easily buy you things for your HM - without the stupid third party. <strong>ManBoy surprised us with a couples massage for our HM, all he had to do was call the resort and book it.</strong> I'm sure he could have done the same if he wanted to buy us sunhats for some reason. Dumb dumb dumb.

    My mom and sisters did the same for us. Bonus to this - a website/third party did not take a cut from it!

    Also, i was wondering: How often are you guys seeing HRs out in real life? I haven't yet, but based on posts here and that blog and all the agreement she got I'm wondering if we're all fighting a losing battle here.

  • I've never yet seen a honeymoon registry, so I'm hoping it's not as rampant as these boards make them seem.
  • Two of my friends did honeymoon registries and I thought it was pretty tacky.  It's basically asking people to pay for your honeymoon for you.  If you can't afford a honeymoon...don't take one.  Or just go away for a few days.  Registries, in general, make me uncomfortable.  I feel like I'm coming right out and asking for specific presents.  I feel weird about it haha...but thats just me.  Of course, logistically, I understand why it makes sense.  I don't really need 5 toasters.  haha

  • I have yet to see a HR in real life either.

    I can't quite put my finger on why they bother me so much. We had to pay for our honeymoon, why should I pay for yours? But I can see that being applied to gifts too, so then I get confused ha ha.

    <div>
    </div><div>I feel the same way. I think that it's because your guests are actually giving you a physical gift with a registry and they're pretty much handing over money (minus fees) with a honeymoon registry. And it's a little offensive to assume your guests wouldn't know money is appreciated. </div><div>
    </div><div>But I am ambivalent about regular registries, too, so there is that. </div>

    [QUOTE]FSIL had a HR for her WDW HM. (How's that for initialisms?)

    <div>Pretty good. If you threw in the initials for the honeymoon registry's website, I would even rate it a great. </div>

    One of my best friends did it, I tried to explain that it wasn't the best the idea but she just didn't get it so I stopped. I bought her a some cute throw pillows that she had been eyeing.
