What would you do?

Hello! I am having an invitation dilemma. Etiquette says invitations should be mailed out anywhere from 3 months to 8 weeks before the wedding date. I am at the 8-week mark for my July 23rd wedding. I have received everything for my invitations but the envelopes. They are being held up in production. It has been five weeks since I ordered them and, according to Zazzle customer service, there is still no estimated ship date. Keeping in mind etiquette, should I send out the invitations this week in the plain white envelopes that came with the invites? Should I wait a week to see if my super awesome custom orange and pink envelopes that will totally make the invitation show up? What would you do? P.S. I did send out save-the-dates and there is a wedding website.

Re: What would you do?

  • I would send them out ASAP. Screw pink and orange envelopes, you need to get those things out.

I think if you did STDs you can wait a little longer to send them. Those envelopes sound adorable. I have heard even 6 weeks is acceptable, especially if you did STDs. If I were you, I'd wait to see if they do show up, and if they don't, mail them at 6 weeks.

  • I think some of it depends on when you need your final numbers to your caterer too...  If, like me, you don't need to get numbers to them until a few days to a week before, waiting for the envelopes would be fine.  It helps that you sent STDs too.  As soon as you get those envelopes though I'd sit down and get them out asap.

If you send the invites out in white envelopes are they going to reimburse you for the orange and pink ones that didn't make it in time?  If they aren't giving you any money back for their mistake, I would consider waiting a bit longer.  If you can get some money back, maybe just send the white ones.  Even though the organe and pink ones sound awesome, all I do is open the envelope and throw it away.
  • At most I would wait a week, since you still need to factor in time for addressing them and things.  6 weeks is acceptable, and 8 weeks is recommended more for a OOT guests with travel arrangements.  If you already sent out STD's, I think you are okay to get them out by 6 weeks, but no later.

  • Ditto, I'd aim to send them out at 6 weeks at the latest.  If they come in time, great, if not just use white.
