Ushers and tues/limo

Does anyone know the exact way to go with putting the ushers in tuxes? We have been going back and forth on this for months! We want them all to look fairly uniform since they are in pictures and what not. We thought about just possibly seeing if they all had black suits and then telling them the color of shirt and tie to buy...in order to save everyone some $$. What does everyone think of that? Would that not look good??

Also, is everyone having their ushers ride in the limo with the wedding party?? Any input would be much appreciated. :-) :-)

I absolutely wouldn't make an usher wear a tuxedo. They're not standing up their with you, they'll be in the audience after they've seated people.

IMO, that would be a waste of money.

EDIT: I changed my mind. For the limo part, I think that Dani is spot on. We had a limo for us, but the rest of the WP rode individually, so this wasn't an issue for us.

Our ushers wore black pants, a solid colored collared shirt and a tie. I don't look back and think, "OH THE HORRORS! It's awful!" They were more comfortable and that was fine with me.
  • Our groomsmen wore tuxes and we told our Ushers to just wear black suits with a white shirt.  I bought their ties for them.

We treated our Ushers just like regular wedding party members.  So if we had a limo, they would have ridden in it.  We didn't have one though so it wasn't really an issue for us.

  • My ushers are renting tuxes from the same place our groomsmen are... but that's mostly because they both (my brothers) wanted to wear tuxes. I would have been fine asking them just to wear a suit from their closet.
  • When I was an usher in a wedding, the guys just wore their own black suits, and I don't remember if they had coordinating ties.  The women ushers rode in the limo with the bridal party so I assume the men rode in the limo with the groom party.

We weren't in the pictures they took during the coctail party because we were working the door pretty much as part of the wedding planner's staff, but that's a whole other story!
  • If the ushers are not the same as your groomsmen I wouldn't put them in tuxes.  Just ask them to wear a suit.
