Food Processor yummies

I feel like I'm being a total PW today, but oh well.

So, FI got me a big ol' food processor for my birthday yesterday.  I know I'm going to use it for some of my baking recipes, but I'd like to find some other uses for it.  I've never had one before.

Right now the only thing I can think of is hummus.  Anything else you can make in a food processor and/or a good recipe?

Well, it's timing appropriate because of the post below, but I use mine to make awesome fresh salso. I grow basil and I use the food processor to do pesto too.

EDIT: also, any kind of salad dressing, since you can mince garlic or whatever then drizzle the oil in while the thing is going. That was terrible wording. My brain is tired.

  • I don't own a food processor, but I do own a Magic Bullet Express, which is a juicer, FP and a blender.

You can use a FP for making pesto sauce. I saw that on the Food Network the other day.

Hey, Lauren. You're on my brainwave.
  • I love pesto!  Great idea!  Oh man, fresh pesto for my pasta would be amazing.

BTW, I have no idea why he got me the 9 cup one.  Really, do we need 9 cups of anything in a 2-person household?

  • You'd be surprised, Kiki. I wish mine were bigger. You can also puree all types of veggies for soups. That's when I wish I had the giant one: when I want say, butternut squash soup. My food processor is too small to fit cubed squash into.

  • I have a 14 cup one!

I definitely do pesto, hummus, vinagrette, salsa. I chop up the seasoning for guacamole (you know, onion, cilantro, jalapeno, lime juice, garlic), and then mix it in with avocado.

You can do soups, too (the kind that need to be pureed - just do it in small batches!).

I don't do much baking, but I still use my food processor a LOT.

  • Guess I'll just have to play around and try to come up with ideas.  I'm not a very creative cook.  Butternut squash soup sounds good too, though.
