Sweden in pictures

Hope you all enjoy!  Any questions, just ask. I will try to give as much detail as I can/know about things, but I don't want to take away from teh pics. They are mostly taken by my H.

Luckily it got nice later, and we went for a drive.

  • Snips - my parents lived in Germany right after they were married (in the mid 70s) and my mom speaks of it very fondly and also not as fondly. I think while she loved all the travel, she got very homesick, too.

H used to be in a job where an international stint for a couple years was possible and was of interest to him. It was something we talked about when we were dating and I was a bit like my mom -- equally intrigued and terrified at being so far away from family/friends.

  • There it is! I've been stalking the front page waiting for this post. Beautiful!

I want to be the kids in the bubbles too. They have them at a place close to the river down here but just in a little manmade pool. Nowhere near as cool as that.
  • I studied that building in school.  It's really cool.

It looks beautiful and I have been dying to go to the Scandinavian countries for eva.  I hope to get there soon.

And I serously need to get me one of those bubbles!

  • BUBBLES! I want to be in there!

I want to witness an 11pm sunset. I think I want to visit northern Europe in the summer and winter. When does the sun rise and set in the summer vs winter?

I have an uncle who lives in Sweden. I should really go visit him before he moves. These pictures are gorgeous! He's engaged to a Thai girl and thanks to the awesome vacay time in Sweden, he spends a lot of time in Thailand. His parents (my grandparents) live in Iran so I don't think he'll move any time soon, because they visit each other quite a bit. (My grandparents have dual citizenship with Sweden.)
  • Sweden is beautiful! You're way more adventerous than I am, being able to move abroad. What is the weather like there? I know it's colder than it is here, but how cold?

  • You can also sign me up for the bubbles.

What beautiful pictures! Thank you : )
  • Adamar, we had a crazy hoarfrost (the whole air turned into frost, basically) The flakes were huge:

Nat, where in Sweden?  There is a giant difference in terms of sunup/down not just from season, but also north to south.  I'm in the very southern tip of Sweden, across from Copenhagen. Up north it doesn't go down at all.
I'd say in the winter, we have sun from about 8:30-3:30 or 4. Summer... well we make up for the short winter days. Right now it comes up around 4am and goes down at about 10:30.

For example, here's Midsummer in 2010, along the Baltic coast, looking out towards Germany:

This is after midnight, btw. Here's looking north:

It strongly depends on where you live. Like I said, we're in the south, so our winter is generally much more like a British one. We get very little snow, and lot's of rain. But, just 10 minutes north of us, they get hammered with snow and it's cold.  The pictures I posted before were of the coldest winter they've had here in 110 years, so it's a bit different.

I'll put it this way. I'm from Michigan, and I thought even that the record cold winter wasn't too bad. ;)

Sorry it took so long to get them up! I had to troll through our Facebook pages and save them all. Took forever.

I really want to go to Europe now. I can't believe our London honeymoon is still more than 9 months away. Boo.

It's okay! I for one understand having to go through tons of FB pictures for what I'm looking for...I have a lot of pictures. :)
  • I'm glad you guys like them! :)
  • My uncle lives in or near Stockholm, but I'd want to travel to many cities (probably just in the southern half- I don't know much about the northern half, if there's even anything up there!). I just looked up Stockholm on Google maps. It looks like more water than land in that area!
  • Yeah, almost the entire population lives south of Stockholm. Unless you are super into nature and outdoorsy things, you probably don't need to go up there. :)

Sweden looks beautiful!  I'd love to visit there some day (especially after reading the Steig Larsson trilogy and trying to imagine all the different places in my head).
  • Thanks for sharing! I also liked the pictures you posted in the night thread.
  • I posted pictures in the night thread? *scratches head*
