Perfume allergies...

My grandma has very severe allergic reactions to any kind of perfume. She has had this for years, but it has gotten much worse in the last few years. It gets to the point where she will have to leave restaurants, church, etc. I guess me question is, would it be tacky if I included an insert with the invitations that said something like "Due to allergies, please no perfume." I obviously don't want my grandma to have to leave any of the festivities of the day, and I don't want to look tacky either. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Thanks everyone. Your advice is super appreciative.

Re: Perfume allergies...

  • Is the room small where you'll be?

My mother is also very allergic to perfumes, (when at the grocery store, she has to dart to the detergent she wants and then get away because the perfumes in the detergents is too much) and she was fine at our wedding and reception, because there was a good amount of space. She wasn't sandwiched between Granny Chanel No. 5 and Paris Hilton Jr. or anything tlike that.
  • Both the church and the reception hall are larger rooms. I am just scared that knowing my luck she'll get stuck next to someone somewhere that will be bathed in perfume. haha
  • Well, if she's your grandmother, then have a row or two of reserved seating for your family, and ask your family members to cool it on the perfume.

For the reception, if you're not having assigned seating, you could have reserved tables, where again, your grandmother could sit with family.
  • You can't worry about everything- I'm sure she'll be seated with family at both the ceremony and reception, and they'll know not to over do it with her around.
  • ditto JessAndTrav.
i would remind family members about her allergy, and seat her with them.

you can put a blurb on a wedding website.

i think if you include it on the invitation, it will seem bridezillaish.
