  • I would love to be a self-made man (errr... woman). I think I could rock it out at wedding planning for other people, just not myself. Either that or being a personal shopper/assistant. Too bad I have this insatiable need to please other people and be coddled in my achievements. Bwahaha

  • buy your STDs? - about 10 months out? December '09. Sent them at 7 months out when we had all the addresses ready.
buy your invites? - May, I believe. They came in earlier than I thought. I needed to get the envelopes to the calligrapher by June, so I was a little early. Mailing them in early August.
decide on your cake? - almost right away. I found a picture I loved of a cake a long time ago. We knew we would be using our favorite baker. I've seriously never had better cake in my life than from this woman. Easiest wedding decision ever.
decide on your flowers? - Uhhhh I just met with a florist last weekend. Less than 3 months out. But I did work my color scheme around orange roses - they're my favorite flower.

  • I've just always loved them! They're different than the typical red or pink. My BMs are wearing deep red dresses and we're doing chocolate accents - and orange and red flowers. Cliched for a fall wedding, but it seems like it will be pretty from what I have so far.

  • mmm- i don't care how cliched it is, it sounds elegant and gorgeous for sure! i love the idea of a deep red dress. it just screams "i'm sexy, but not sexier than the bride!" make sure those groomsmen don't try to snatch them up ;-)

Meagan- thx girly! i've been trying to figure crap out and it's rough because i've been engaged since december, but not getting married until next june so it's a long engagement. I'm just getting antsy because I want to get things rolling and coming together.

  • buy your STDs? Last week. Sending them out in September for a May wedding. It is on a holiday weekend so we are sending them a little early.
buy your invites? Making them. Have about half of the supplies and am going to start them 6 months out to give myself plenty of time.
decide on your cake? I am making a faux cake and getting little cakes from a local baker. So I guess it has already been decided.
decide on your flowers? I already ordered them from Afloral because they were on closeout and I really really wanted them. I have a lot of things taken care of which is making me antsy because now I am bored. (no job)

I also got engaged in December and we aren't getting married until May 2011. It is torture.

  • buy your STDs? ordered them 6 and half months before, mailed them at the 6 month mark. I organized all of the addresses in advance, so I mailed the STDs as soon as I received them.
buy your invites? Just ordered our invites today. So a little under 4 months. They should be here in 2 weeks, and I am mailing them 8 weeks out.
decide on your cake? 8 months before the wedding. It wasn't really necessary to pick the design so early, but I knew what I wanted so I finalized it with the baker right around the time we booked her.
decide on your flowers? 5 months before

decided on flowers: it's an ongoing process.  My mother's my florist, but I just chose fall colored flowers a couple months ago.  The sunburst (gold turning into red) roses are my favorite.

  • STDs- technically we didn't do them. But in December 09 we sent out a mass email with a link to the wedding website (for an Aug 28 wedding) and basically told people "consider yourselves warned." :)

invites- I designed them myself in Photoshop and ordered them from VistaPrint.com. Started ordering them (I ordered pieces at a time) in May, got the rest in June. Invites went out the 3rd week in June.

cake- Just recently. My reception venue is a restaurant and they have their own pastry chef. They knew I was planning on using her but I just met with her a few weeks ago.

flowers- February. I'm using a friend of my mom's and we met with her at that point just to start our ideas.
  • My wedding is October 2nd.

I didn't send STDs.  I did send an email, and it went out to different groups at different times depending on when we received email addresses, and not everybody got it (mostly people from FI's side that he never got around to).

I ordered my invitations at the end of May.  That was probably a little early because it only tempted me to send them out before I'm supposed to.

I put my mom in charge of the cake and flowers because I don't care that much about them, it gives her something to do and feel involved in, and I don't have to worry about trying to coordinate those from out of town.  I knew who the florist would be for a long time because it's a family friend, but my mom actually met with them and the cake people to get quotes a few weeks ago.  We still haven't decided on the details of what cake flavors we will have and things like that.

Invites - ordered supplies 5 months out, assembled 3 months out, sent 2 months out.
cake - booked 11 months out (early, but it's a DW and we're not in town often)
flowers - decided I'd do it myself immediately. Did a test run 11 months out. Decided on flowers close to there.

decide on your flowers? Bought silks for BMs in April. Bought my silks in June.
  • buy your STDs? ummm, 5 months out? I sent them right after I got them.
buy your invites? 3 months out. also sent right after I got and assembled them.
decide on your cake? 2-3 months out, thereabouts
decide on your flowers? when I was like 15. I knew for a long time that my bouquet would be lavender roses and nothing but. the rest of the flowers? well I sat down with the florist about 6ish months out and we discussed some ideas and I decided on a mixture of roses, hydrangeas and lavender.
