Photographer Tips

Question, I read that you tip a photographer if they do not own the studio.  In our case our photographer owns the buisness but her 'assistant' (who i guess is normally her sister in law, but may vary) is coming the day of the wedding.  Do you tip only the assistant?  Thanks:)

  • I think this is like you're not supposed to tip the hairstylist if she owns the salon.  I don't get it so I wouldn't NOT tip just because they owned the studio.

I also wouldn't tip until you get your photos/album whatever you get at the end.
  • My photographer brought a 2nd shooter and an assistant.  We tipped both the 2nd shooter & the assistant at the end of the night.  We "tipped" our photographer when we bought an album from her.
  • If the assistant is also taking pictures does that make any difference?

  • I'd say it would be nice to tip whomever is doing a service to you. The amount my differ from assistant to lead photographer though. They should all get something if they are working your wedding day.
  • I did tip the 2nd shooter more than the assistant.  So I do think it matters if its an assistant or shooter.  The shooter will be doing more work longer.  The assistant just brought lighting equipment into the church and helped set up shots.
