Weird Feeling

I took my rings to the jeweler to be re-plated and cleaned and it feels so weird! Not just having a naked ring finger, but sitting there watching them fill out the form and knowing they are taking my rings and sending them who knows where and I can't pick them up until the 26th...it's such a weird feeling!

That is all.

Re: Weird Feeling

• I wouldn't like that, either.

When Robbins Brothers left Houston, they sent me a letter saying that I could send my rings through the mail to get them cleaned, inspected or repaired as needed.

Through the mail.

No thanks. I'll just drive to Dallas.
• I HATE that. I have to send mine to be redipped next week and I really don't want to. Where do they go? How do I know that it won't get lost in the mail??
"In the old days my ass would be in your back yard picking cotton, so excuse me if I don't put much stock in how f*cking awesome the old days were." -Nuggs
• I just to think that women that complained (not that you are) about not having their rings while they are being sized were total douches, but now that I have one, I totally get it. Or maybe I'm just a total douche now too.
• I know how you feel. I had to take my e-ring for it's semiannual inspection and it turned out that one of my diamonds was loose and it had to be shipped away for repairs. I wasn't expecting it and got a little sad.
• Yeah I was bummed because when we bought my wedding band there, I felt good knowing that they did the replating in house, so it wouldn't have to be shipped out. Well I guess they stopped doing that because now they ship them out and keep them for 10 days.Undecided

Dude, that exact thought crossed my mind as I sat there!! I promise! I thought to myself - I think I've made fun of girls for complaining about this, but man, now I get it!

• Yours is from RB too, Dani?

When I take it to Dallas, they still do it in-store.

Oh no, it's from a jewelry store in Indianapolis. I was just speaking in general about the place we got it.

• I just bought an at-home sonic ring cleaner because I hate dropping my rings off to be cleaned. I hoped this would solve my problem. It did not.

• Haha. I'm stupid. I got up much earlier today than usual. I don't think my mind is working right yet.
• Ha! Great minds, Dani. Great minds.

Rach - does that sonic thing work?
• I have to get mine rhodium-plated (I'm allergic to the nickle in the white gold) and I keep putting it off. I don't want to take it off for any length of time.

I got a $30 one from BB&B, and while my rings came out of the cleaner looking cleaner (read: more sparkly), two days later they look like dull-poo again. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it yet or not....I could get the same sparkle look just by letting them sit in vodka (which I already have) and save myself some money.

• Seriously? Vodka makes them sparklier?

Really? I've never heard of that.

My jewelry store will clean them right there while you wait. It's the replating that they have to ship out for, and it's been almost 2 years for my rings so they were really starting to yellow.

• Even when I take my ring off to go to the gym I'll have a little "OMG!" panic moment in the car when I can't feel it. And half a second later I'll realize it's because I took it off, but it's weird to not wear it.

And my ring is vintage, so I wouldn't really be able to find the same one if it got lost. :-/ I know we have insurance for it, but the point is, I'd be so sad if anything happened to THIS ring.

I read it online a long time ago---and tried it, and it worked. Especially with used with a toothbrush to get the extra gook out.

• I bought a tiny $4 silver band to wear if I'm not wearing my e-ring. That way I don't freak out if I don't feel something on my finger.
• I guess I'm the only one who doesn't feel weird when I don't have mine on. Although, I pretty much only wear my ring when I leave the house; even then, I forget sometimes.

• Kiki -- just out of curiosity, how come you don't wear it all the time? I'm not trying to sound judgmental or anything, I'm just legitimately curious.

• Like I said, it's not so much that I don't have them on, it's them being shipped off to who knows where that is strange and a little unsettling.

I don't like jewelry. I don't wear earrings, necklaces... used to, but just not anymore. I can't imagine sleeping with a ring on, especially.

Dani- oh yeah, that makes sense. I've never had to ship mine anywhere, so that would be a little weird.

• I need my rings redipped so badly, but I really don't want to go any amount of time without them. My rings are also from two different stores so they wouldn't even be together. Just makes me nervous.
• I hate when I'm not wearing my ring. I'll randomly stop, feel my finger, have a mini panic attack and remember I forgot my ring.

Oh really? Well that actually makes me feel a little better. I'll have to look into that.
• FWIW, I used to be the manager at a fairly large diamond store, and what they used was a 50/50 solution of lemon Mr. Clean and really hot water. Let your rings sit in it for 5-10 minutes, and then get a soft toothbrush and scrub at the little crevices. The Mr. Clean will de-gook your rings and get rid of any skin oils or lotions you have stuck to your diamond.

Rinse after you're done scrubbing, and you're set to go. I've also heard about the vodka working, but I'd rather use Mr. Clean and drink my vodka. ;)
• I have a square setting to my ring, and to get a wedding band fitted to it I'm going to have to send it away for 4-6 weeks, and I keep putting it off because I don't want to send it way :/
