How to address Invites with no inner envelope?

I know the usual Mr. and Mrs. will be pretty standard and not a problem.  However, how do you address an "and guest" invite?  I'm really lost and can't find a straight answer anywhere else.  I know you girls will know what to do!!!  Thanks so much!!!

  • If you know the guest's name, include it: Ms. Jane Smith and Mr. Fred Jones
If you don't know, and guest is fine:  Ms. Jane Smith and Guest

    Exactly what Mrs. B said.

We didn't have inner envelopes, and people seemed to get who was invited and who wasn't.
  • We just put "And Guest" on the outer. That was, of course, only for guests that were not in a relationship. For anyone in a relationship (dating, living together, married), the guest was addressed by name.

  • If we knew the guest's name we addressed the envelope to the guest as well. If the invitee was single (or at least single to our knowledge) I inserted a note telling the invitee that they were more than welcome to bring a guest, and to just indicate the guest's name and meal choice on the reply card.
