Anexity -?s and rant

I suffer from anxiety disorder and panic disorder.  I am on meds, both maintenance and Ativan for when I have a panic attacks.  I'm having a really rough day/night.  Does any one else suffer from this?  What things do you do to try to relax or work through an attack?  I do deep breathing exercises and have a meditation CD.  I am not depressed, but it sucks!  When I have a panic attack I feel awful.  Sorry, it feels better to talk about it and FI is asleep, and I hate to wake him, even though he has told me a million times to wake him up if I need him.  Actually this one isn't that bad since I am not waking him up yelling at him that I am going to die and need to go to the ER.

Re: Anexity -?s and rant

  • Honeslty, I would wake my FI.  Even though he would fall asleep right away, knowing he was concerned enough to put his arms around me and TRY to stay awake would make me feel better.

    sorry, that sucks!
  • Just take some deep breaths....maybe take a bath and put some soothing music on.  Read a book, magazine, play a game on your computer...anything to get your mind off the anxiety.  If it stays the same after an hour I would probably wake your FI.  Sorry you're going through this.  You can PM me if you want to talk...

I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough night. Have you taken an Ativan already? I would try doing what normally works to calm down, like the breathing, relaxation stuff, etc. If it doesn't work, I would take the Ativan, and make sure you are in a room or location where you feel safe and try to focus on something else that's positive or neutral. PsyDet's suggestion of waking your FI after an hour is a good one. Good luck, and if you need some minutiae to keep your mind occupied, there's some stuff going on here that should help. :)

  • I have panic attacks as well. I take ativan when it gets too bad to handle, however most of the time when I'm having a minor attack, if I can get FI to hold me and play some soothing music it helps tremendously. Also deep breathing helps me a lot. Ativan is extremely helpful for me, but it's very addictive and I try not to take it unless it's uncontrollable using these methods.

  • I have anxiety attacks too and can definitely feel your pain.  When I'm really anxious (but perhaps not in full attack mode), exercising can help calm me down.  Definitely take the medication now.  I often just have to distract myself too, so reading, etc. can also help.  Hang in there!
