NWR - Friday afternoon Poll - Why I love my job.

I run the temporary Light Industrial staffing division for a locally owned staffing company here in West Michigan. I see a lot of people in here who I'm either unable to help (poor criminal history, dishonest or unreliable people) or who are completely ungrateful for the help that they get from me (not showing up for work, faking work-related injuries to get back on unemployment).

I just gave a long-term job assignment to a man who has been on unemployment for over a year. It literally just ran out last week. He had such a warm, friendly personality and an awesome work history. I was flabbergasted that he's been off work for this long.

After he left my office, I watched him walk out in the parking lot through the window. He gave himself a fist-pump in the air, he was so excited. I haven't stopped smiling since.

Which made me think of a good Friday-afternoon Poll. Why do you love your job?

I LOVE my job because I get TONS of hugs every morning. I am a teacher and my students past and present LOVE ME!!!  Oh, I love them too. But it seems that I always love them a little more when that last bell rings on FRIDAY @ 2:45!!!!!

I love my job because there are times when the little guy will accomplish something we have been working on for weeks. And there are times when he says things like, "You make my heart happy."

My boss is amazing! We both took off to go to Mud Nationals (huge 4 wheeler ride, redneck, I know, but oh so fun!!). Not only did I get paid days off, he paid for my hotel room and gave me $150 cash to help offset the cost. He pretty much paid for me to go to play in the mud and get drunk!

Hehe yeah I did want to AW my story a bit because I don't get a lot of awesomeness these days. But it was a good reminder of why I do what I do in the first place.

AK that's an awesome story! That would make me feel warm and fuzzy inside, too.

While it's hard to find reasons to love my job right now one thing I think is awesome is that they allow dogs in our office. Most days there is at least one dog, quite often three, and periodically people bring in their dogs for visits, instead of a full day. So I get my doggie fill and almost always have a form of stress relief nearby with a dog happy to be pet and loved.

I love my job because I get punched in the face.  Wait, I'm doin' it wrong.

I love my job because I have a kick ass boss and coworkers.  And sometimes, I really do feel like I'm doing good things.

I love my job because eventhough I do HR, I work for something that means a lot to me.  I'm not doing the "cool" work that people envision with this job but I like to think I'm helping in my own way. 

I also love the people in my office.

You know, I'd never heard of allowing dogs at work until I got to this job. One of my clients allows it, and every time I'm there to meet with them, there's a couple of adorable pooches running around. It just makes the whole mood lighter!

I love my job because I gave a quiz today and I had several students come back later in the day to find out how they did. They did so well that it raised their averages by 2 points. I was THRILLED!!! Oh yeah, spring break and 2 weeks at Christmas don't suck, either.

I love my job because:

- I have 100% employer paid benefits.
- Our offices are entirely smoke free.
- Our owner's motto is "We aren't here for a long time - we're here for a good time!" and the company culture reflects this.
- Casual dress code.  I could wear jeans to work every day and no one would bat an eye.
- Employee appreciation events frequently take place at the spa.  (The first time I went to one, I was FLOORED.  They're taking us out in the middle of the work day?  For pedicures?  For real?!)

I love my job because Max was able to come visit yesterday

I love my job because I just came back from a chair massage (every 2 weeks, she's here)

I love my job because my department head is a very understanding person, and I work with some fun people.

I love my job because there's no smoking on campus, anywhere, including in your car. You have to leave the campus.

I love my job because I'm actually making more here than I did before, and there's no one kicking me in the shins.

I LOVE my job because I get to work from home a 2-3 days a week, free cable and internet, get to take long lunches to go wedding deco shopping, wedding plan during the work day, make awesome money, casual office where I can shut my door and get important wedding stuff done, have an awesome boss who is rarely in the office and leaves me to do what I do, and I love HR, it's awesome, and people love talking to me, so my 600+ employees are like a huge extended family and we all would do anything for each other! (well, most of us)! Of course, being a SAHM is my dream job, but until my FI wins the lottery, that's in my dreams.

Love that you (AK) got that opportunity today, good for you! And love everyone loving their job and not hating!

Also love that it's Friday and I'm leaving early!
