Ceremony to Reception Distance?

How far is too far to make my guests drive from the ceremony site to the reception site?

Re: Ceremony to Reception Distance?

  • We typically seem to end up driving between 20-30 minutes (ours was about a 25 minute drive from one location to the other). 35 minutes is about the maximum I would drive unless I was very close to the person.

  • As a guest, I appreciate it when the drive is 30 mins or less.  When it is greater than that, it bugs me.  (Not that I would ever complain about it to anyone other than my FI!).

I agree with PPs.  Up to 30 minutes, I would think nothing of it.  After 45 minutes to an hour though, I would probably be a bit annoyed.
  • I agree 30 minutes!
  • 30-40 minutes I could deal with. The drive between our venues is about that long. A friend of mine went to a wedding that was in one city and the reception was in the next biggest city over an hour away. She said there was a huge gap in between and it was really awkward.

  • I had to drive from one side of Atlanta to another for a previous friend's wedding.  Traffic was awful, and it took almost an hour.  I would try to do the locations as close as possible.

  • Exactly the problem. Atlanta is impossible.
