mom on the invite

My future husband and I are hosting our own wedding. The wedding is casual and not traditional. The invitations were going to read, "Please join us, brides name and grooms name, in marriage, the day and time." My mom wants me to put her name in the invitation, along with my dad and the grooms parents name. Do you think my mom is going over the top?

I would just add "together with their families."

Can you compromise with "together with their families" or something similar?  I don't think your mom is "going over the top".

What about Bride (daughter of x and y) and groom (son of x and y) invite you...

I think that "together with their families" is a very fair way to handle this.  I don't know if I would put both sets of parents' names, only because it would get too wordy.

Just my 2 cents, though:)

If it is something that is really important to your mom, why not just list you as "daughter of so and so." It won't make it seem that your parents are paying for the wedding, and your parents will be recognized, which ought to satisfy them.

If you don't want to go with the traditional wording format that starts with the names of the bride's parents, then leave your invitation worded as it is, and then put this at the bottom:

Michelle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Doe.
Dean is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Jones.
