did you read a wedding etiquette book??

I would like to pick a couple up. What books would you recommend to buy for wedding etiquette. I went to a couple websites and read about emily post, and also the knots book was up there. any recommendations?

Re: did you read a wedding etiquette book??

  • I would buy Emily Post's before TK's.  TK is in the wedding business, not the etiquette business.  I didn't buy any book though, and just found the answers to any questions on here.

  • I read Miss Manners book.

  • Emily Post's book is the best one out there IMHO. It's a great reference text, and it also really helps with weird stuff like writing out wedding invitations if one of your parents is in the military and they are divorced and the other parent married a goat.

  • I have a couple of etiquette books.  E.Post is good, there is also a seperate E.Post for weddings, or there was. I'm not sure if it's in print anymore

    Crane's bluebook

I'd avoid the knot etiquette, I've seen too many real etiquette errors they say are fine
  • Emily Post. And Miss Manners also has a wedding etiquette book.

  • Emily Post is decent; it has some modern stuff I'm personally not that fond of but seems more popular in other areas of the country. I live in a really old school place, so you may find it to be better than I did. The Miss Manners Guide to a Surprisingly Dignified Wedding is very good, and Crane's Blue Book is good, but it's for stationery only. That's one I'd just take a peek at at the store/library for a specific question unless you just like it.

  • I read the Miss Manners book, and I highly recommend it.  It's completely correct, while also being tongue-in-cheek in parts.  It helped me relax a little during wedding planning, because I really like MM's dry wit.

Well, she must have misread. She wouldn't find any evidence of either of those things being okay in that book. :)

  • Miss Manners Guide to a Surprisingly Dignified Wedding was a very fun read and really helpful!  She walks you through every step from engagement to post-wedding with clear answers and her great sense of humor.

  • I just pretty much skimmed a few in the bookstores. I checked a few out of the library, too.

I think Emily Post can't be blamed for user error when operating her book. :)

  • Knot Carly makes my eyes roll back in my head.
  • I took a couple of the library.  Emily Post's was excellent.  Her granddaughter has also written a new one that has an updated section on some of the "newer" developments since the original.  Highly recommend it.
