I hired a temporary part-time employee over the summer of 2010 because I had an employee out on maternity leave. When the employee returned from her maternity leave, other employee was done here. She filed for unemployment and is getting it (which I think is really stupid, because it was a temporary job).
Anyway, I just got the letter from unemployment saying she is entitled to unemployment pay. Interestingly enough, I ran into this ex-employee this weekend at a garage sale, where she said she is cleaning houses for people, and is so busy that she had to turn some people away. I am sure she isn't reporting any of this income. I'm not trying to get her in big trouble, but we really should not be paying her unemployment when she clearly has a job (that pays much more than she was getting here). Is there anything I can do, or are we just stuck paying unemployment to someone who is actually working?
