Stupid question about addressing envelopes.

Can I write in cursive?  My handwriting is so much nicer than my printing, but I just addressed the first STD and suddenly wondered if it would annoy the post office.
Google returns conflicting results.

TIA!

Re: Stupid question about addressing envelopes.

  • yes, my mom wrote cursive on all of ours.
  • Awesome, thanks!  I can live with the post office being annoyed as long as it gets them where they're supposed to be.

  • as long as the cursive is legible, they have no reason to be annoyed.  in fact, my mom actually uses cursive on the envelope any time she sends a card of any kind.
  • Of course you can write in cursive.  The post office does not require printing.
  • Yep.  As long as its legible.  We used cursive for everything we sent for our wedding, and had no problems.

  • Just be super clear with the zipcodes.

From recent experience that's all that seems to matter.
  • I'd say if your cursive is legible, go for it.

I figure if they're ok with caligraphy, they've gotta be ok with cursive.

[QUOTE]You are supposed to write in cursive!  Printing is not socially correct for anyone over the age of 8.  Unfortunately, we do not teach cursive in public schools anymore, so the next generation is going to be missing this essential skill.

    Really?

Then why do so many forms for adults require printing?
