How many rooms to block?

All my guest are coming from out of town to where I live for the wedding.  I have researched 4 hotels that have the same average prices.  Two are on the north side for those traveling from that direction and two on the south side for the other guests coming from that direction.

Do I block at four different hotels for options (or is that too much, since the pricing is about the same) and how many rooms do I block for a guest list of about 50-75.  What's the ratio of hotel rooms to guests? As I'm sure larger families might actually rent out houses in the area or cabins, etc....

Usually hotels will allow you to block 10 rooms at a time.  I think 4 hotels are plenty.

Make sure to also find out what their attrition and cancellation polices are for room blocks.  You may find everyone is picking one hotel over another and don't want to be liable at too many places.

Ditto Caji. See if their blocks are courtesy hold or if they require that you be responsible for any unused rooms. Each hotel is different.
