Groom gifts

Since I'm lacking motivation to do my work today.  I figure I'll get opnions on wedding stuff.

What did/do you plan to get your FI/Husband for a gift?

A friend of mine is doing a boudaire shoot for me next weekend. That's part of his gift, other then that I'm unsure lol. I know it's early but I'm actually putting the album together myself and I need to do it discretely I need to get a head start.

  • I'm doing a pin up shoot today. I am actually pretty terrified. I think he will be excited though.

  • He bought his tux so I got him a set of cufflinks and those things that cover the buttons... whatever they're called.

  • I did boudoir pics and made them into a photobook and that was all I gave him.

  • Nothing, we agreed that for us it wasn't important or necessary.

That sounds fun though! I'm sure he'll love it.

I got him admission to this beer tasting seminar that was happening while we were on the honeymoon.  So I guess you could consider that his gift.

But really, I don't entirely get this tradition.  He gets to marry me, and I am vain enough to think that is s gift in itself.

Wait, is your friend a professional photographer?  Because if not, I don't know, I wouldn't DIY these pics.

Jas - tips?  I was super nervous when I got there, but the photographer was really good at directing me and just telling me what to do and where to look and whether to smile or not.  You shouldn't be trying too hard to look sexy, once you're dressed and just following their directions, it should happen on its own.  She showed me the first couple of pictures right after she took them and that really put me at ease!

B-Pics ladies - what does he do with the book/photos after he gets them?  Just keep it in his sock drawer for a lonely day?  I'm not trying to be snarky, just geniunely curious :)

Oh and to answer the OP - we're not doing gifts.  We'll probably write each other little notes, but the honeymoon and each other are going to be our gifts.

  • We made our rings. Which is was quite a bit more expensive than buying the same ring already made. So that was our gift to each other.

Lol yes and no. He's actually done some photos of FI and before. He does really incredible work but he refuses to do it professional because he said it will take the fun out of it.

That's one of the phots from our shoot before. I'm lucky actually. I have 2 friends and a cousin who are all professional and/or professional quality photographers.

My cousin is doing our wedding photos, my friend Tim is doing our engagement photos and Eric is doing my boudaire shoot :-)

  • I'm getting him socks so he won't get cold feet, a map so he can't get lost on his way to the church, and this great Movado watch (that he mentioned he loved a few months ago) so he'll be on time.

I got this idea from somewhere on the knot and I thought it was cute.
  • Ok, that's twice now. It's BOUDOIR.

Without trying to sound trashy or slutty my FI really likes having pictures of me lol.

Actually the photoshoot we did together was a birthday present for him. IT's not an album and it's not XXX but it is rather provocative, though some of the pictures like the one above came out really nice, he actually has it at his desk at work :-)

  • Thanks Dani! Trying to be sexy is really not my thing. I just can't pull it off. The pics will be clothed though, so I feel a bit better about that.

  • that's perfectly fine with me : )

  • to answer the question, I got an autographed picture of FI's favorite baseball player in the middle of a very important play (Willie Mays' "The Catch" for those interested). I'm having it framed for him to keep in his office/man cave.

what are your FI's interests (other than you)? maybe something related to that. does he like to golf? does he like sports? does he like to fish? etc.

  • I would be really uncomfortable having a friend do a boudoir shoot - regardless of how good a photographer they are.  Even moreso if said friend were male.  And, honestly, I don't think FI would appreciate it much either.  I guess we're just old fashioned.

Dresses may be easier to take in than let out, but guest lists are not. -- kate51485
  • haha not at all. It's a joke. It's how we are with eachother. He'll laugh about it.

Unless he doesn't and things turned weird and he thinks I think he won't show up - which would turn awkward and, I agree, sad. haha
  • He likes golf but doesn't need new golf stuff. He likes Virginia Tech, but seeing as how my garter is VT and so is his groom's cake I think I might need to find something else.

I'm sure I'll figure something out on that end I do have a full year(and 1 day) yet till the wedding. I just need to get this one out of the way because it will take me a long time to assemble it adding to the 60 days my friend said to do all the editting and get my the CD.

We kinda do the same ol' gifts so I'm trying to avoid that.

I find it more uncomfortable doing that infront of a stranger then a friend. I guess it's different opinions. I might have a different opinion for friend doing the shoot is gay so he doesn't look at me like "Oh I'd like to hit that"

I feel very comfortable and safe in any state of dress around gay men lol

Pretty much, yeah.  For me, doing the pics was just as much for me as it was for him.  It was fun and sexy and made me feel pretty.  The book is in his night stand table but I don't think he ever really looks at it (or uses it).
