Coffee and Loofahs

How long does each last?

I have opened coffee in the fridge from three months ago, can I still use it?

I have a loofah I almost never use in my shower for about three months as well. Do those things get moldy? It would seem so, especially if I am not rinsing and using it all the time.

You shouldnt keep coffee in the fridge or the freezer, you should keep it in a tightly closed tin or opaque container in the cupboard.

edit: I realize this doesnt answer your question, Im just saying.
  • I heard that loofahs, cut in half, are LOADED with mold (disgusting, I know).  I don't keep mine for more than three months, because the centers can never be completely cleaned or dried.

  • I'd say you can still use the coffee, it just won't taste great. But I don't think it molds, especially being in the fridge.

Maybe get a new loofah just to be safe? Even the sponges with antimicrobial properties I throw out after a couple months.

Really! Interesting, I guess we just do the fridge because that is what both our moms do. How long does it last in the cupboard?
  • Just brew a pot of coffee and see what you think about the taste. Some folks are picky about how fresh it is, and some aren't.

Unless you keep it in there for guests...in that case just throw it out and get new stuff.

Yuck, I've never heard that about loofahs. What about pumice stones?
  • Ew yeah, I am definitely getting a new loofah, I am glad I didn't talk myself into exfoliating with that old one today.
  • AC, I'd never heard about it until about a month ago.  It grossed me out so much, I threw my loofah out that same night.

I don't know about pumice stones.

Im not sure exactly how long it will last, I just know thats what I learned while working at starbucks. I just know that the fridge will affect the moisture levels in some way that ends up affecting the flavour. I think it really just depends on your tastes and how fast you drink coffee.

    I've heard that too.

I'd use the coffee. The loofah, I'd only use if you wash it in the washing machine with hot water because they can harbor a lot of bacteria.

  • ditto the person who puts their loofah through the laundry (obv. not the dryer).

sometimes, I also throw mine in to the dishwasher.  they fall apart less easily that way, and the water gets super hot.
  • I didn't know you could wash loofahs!

I throw mine out about every month or so. Plus, I love the feeling of a new loofah!

  • use the coffee, but def take it out of fridge, ruins the taste.  Like has been said, keep in a cool, dark, airtight place.  Loofah in the trash... I spray mine with a bleach water solution after each use.
