Nail Home Remedies/Solutions

Ok, does anyone have any home remedies, solutions or ideas for nails that have vertical ridges down the middle, are thin, and separate from the nail bed at the tips where those ridges are?

I had chalked it up to nail tips last year, when the damn technician pulled them off instead of soaking them off (when I questioned her about it, she said, oh no, these are old so we just pry them off). However, it's been a year, and I should have completely new growth at this point.  Thought maybe a fungus; asked my doctor about it; he said no, they'd be thick, and he suggested neosporin on my cuticles because they were reddened (I was clipping them, and I've stopped).  I'm beginning to think it's a lack of nutrients, so I'm back to taking vitamins, but would like to amp it up.

So basically, I have the nails of a 10 year old boy - I keep them clipped all the way down because of the splitting/lifting from the bed. I hate it, because I really like my hands and would like to have nice nails - I have REALLY long fingers.

CN:  My nails suck donkey balls.  Any ideas on how to make them healthier?

Do not mess in the affairs of dinosaurs because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew

  • Without a hesitation, you need to purchase OPI nail envy.  It's almost $20 but it is worth every single penny.  You have to apply it every other day, but you will be amazed at the results.  My nails are exactly like yours and when I used this, they made them thick, long, beautiful, etc.  When I painted them, it looked like I had acrylics.

I, *looks down, ashamed* am a nail biter.

Funny you asked this because I literally got the bottle out of the closet to start nail envy again!

  • I've had some of that - it did work well; hopefully, mine aren't too far gone.  I'll try it again. I'd been using Post Trauma by Revlon and switched to Calcium Hardener.

DH is convinced I've become a compulsive clipper (versus biter).  I've got clippers out almost every day, because the files just tear my nails up, they've gotten so thin (except my thumbs and pointer - they're okay).  I didn't dare get tips for my wedding, so the obligatory wedding ring/ hands shot has my super-short nails. Thank God I got them painted a nude color beforehand, and had the post trauma treatment (which puts like a sheer nude base coat on them too) on them to hide the white streaks.  My cuticles are dry, as well, and that's not getting better with the heat on, so I'm lotioning with Cetaphil cream all the time.

  • You could also take the supplement called biotin, it is supposed to make hair and nails healthier.

  • I bought Nutri-nail (the one with the annoying commercial on tv) It was only 4.25 at Walmart and works so well. My nails feel really strong, and I've been using it since the beginning of October. I bought the one with a 'touch of colour'
