Your definition of FFF

Nebb and Dani's posts in FFF got me thinking...How do you think FFF works?

Re: Your definition of FFF

  • insult & defend, baby.

  • I voted both, and I think that FFF is just about being able say anything about anything or anyone and not get flamed for it. If someone gets flamed, they shouldn't get defensive, because in FFF, you're supposed to be able to say anything.
  • I think when I first got here 8 months ago, the point was people weren't supposed to defend themselves.

But I think it's changed now, and folks can defend themselves if they want. I think that makes things more interesting.

But you don't need to defend yourself (or others)...sometimes that just draws things out. I probably defend myself about half the time when I get flamed. Sometimes it's just not useful to respond.
  • I can't see polls on my computer here, so I'll just type my answer.

I always thought FFF was a place to say what you think about someone or something that happened and that person isn't supposed to get all defensive or flame you for saying it.

I dont think there IS an answer. I have flamed people and been flamed for flaming them, so that defeats option 2. Other people have been flamed and defended themselves so that defeats option 1. I think FFF is truly just a shitload of flaming, from all sides regardless of who says what. People can defend and flame back, or go cry.

That's true, it does keep it going and interesting if people come back and defend themselves or try to explain something.  I can see that.

  • Seems to be a free pass to be more blunt than usual.
  • I think it's fine for people to defend themselves, because usually it showcases their crazy, and everyone can see why they were flamed in the first place.

  • I prefer that the flam-er is "safe" for doing the flaming.  Get it off your chest, whatnot.  Flame-ee is free to defend, ignore, whatever.

  •  I have always liked Flame-FULL Fridays instead. It's no fun when people don't defend themselves.

  • I voted other. I don't care if people defend themselves or if other people defend them. But at the end of the day, it's just FFF. People letting off steam. Continue with your lives as planned and forget about it.

I think FFF like anything else, has evolved over time.  Whn we first started doing it, it was strictly faux pas to try to defend yourself if someone insulted you.  Nowdays, not so much.

I see it more as just a free of all now where anyone can say anything they want.  Defending is ok, insulting is ok.  The only difference between doing it in FFF instead of regualr threads is you don't have the concern of looking like a petty, spiteful asshat since b*tching is the sole purpose of the thread.

  • On thebump they refer to it as FFFF - Flammable flame free fridays.  They also list each one individually, so there are 30 threads with "I have a FFFFC."  So annoying

  • I know what it is supposed to be, but to me, it's turned into, flame away and fight for yourself. Unless there's something terribly offensive like what was said to P2 today, I think people need to fight their own battles.
