My FI and I have been living together for a while and now we are having a very casual wedding. We don't need anything for the house and all of our guests are having to fly in since we are having the wedding at our house. I want to send recipe cards in the invitations instead of receiving gifts. How do I word the invitation for that?

I think technically you can't say, "In lieu of gifts..." because it's implying that they HAVE to give you a gift, so I would leave it off the invitation and put something cute at the top of the recipe. As for requesting they don't give you a gift, try the word-of-mouth approach. Let your close family and wedding party know that you'd rather not be given a gift, and leave it at that. Most people like to give a gift, so they may do it anyway. Just my two cents!

The invitation should never NEVER say a word about gifts.  Instead, construct a wedding website (the knot gives you a really nice free one), and include an insert in your invites that says "for more information regarding the wedding, please visit our website:

On your website, you can tastefully put that you consider their presence gift enough, but if they still wish to bring something, you'd love if they could share a treasured family recipe. 

I'd be really excited and touched to read that on a couple's website, and probably would bring 3 or 4 recipes!  Of course, I'm a baking nut.  I'm jealous I didn't think of it myself, you're a genius!
