How to make it elegant YET fun?

Hello gals,

Our wedding theme is "A World of happiness." We're having the wedding at a western ranch, and we're also incorporating different traditions into our wedding celebration + reception, not to mention a lil carnival thing during cocktail hour...

So, this brings up my question:

I've always wanted to wear an India lengha for my wedding. This outfit, as many of you may know, is quite elaborate and elegant.
AT THE SAME TIME, I found the most fun (and colorful) button bouquets for me and the girls. The idea is for the BMs to wear the same colour of  knee-length dresses (their choice) with different colored shoes.

I really want to keep the fun nature of our theme and let every one of my girls be herself. How do I manage to do this while wearing a lengha?? I would like to look fun too!  Cry

Any ideas welcome!

  • I think that the ornate style of the lengha will make it fun and unique. I don't know that you'll really need anything else.

  • Wow...  How are you letting your guests know what your theme is?  Are you putting in on the invites?  Will there be a sign?

And don't worry about your dress being too formal...  You are the bride after all.  So unless you'll be wearing white gloves and a full on ball gown outside, I'm sure you'll be fine.

  • so western rustic + india + carnival? hmmm.
  • ooh ooh what's a ribbon dance? i can't wait to hear what this is all about!
  • Yeah I'm with daff. I mean the lengha and button bouquets aren't a big deal, but the carnival ranch elegant world of happiness stuff sounds like you're trying to produce a Disney movie, not host a wedding.

  • Please see WDW's "It's a Small World"  It should give you inspiration on how to incorporate cowboy boots, ferris wheels and Indian dress.

I don't know about button bouquets, though...

aaand anyone can do this? even uncle ted?
  • I would assume Uncle Ted could do it, but he may have to wear spandex during his performance in order to effectively prevent chaffing.

  • BTW, for us having a theme is more about finding a way to tie this "East meets West" wedding (we're of different ethnicities). And after reading your comments I do agree I am getting waaay too carried away on details that may just give a confusing look to the whole event.

I just love your brutal honesty.

    Namaste!
