**Live update from the disaster zone**

Hey there.

We survived, the house survived and it seems the city of Cairns survived.  It hit down in the Mission Beach area (about 2 hrs south of us) and they got hit hard.  We had minimal foliage damage.  Nothing more than what an average rainstorm here would bring down.  We have water (and a solar hot water heater) but no electricity Thank heavens we have a gas stove.  The main village has power restored, but us, two blocks away, are still out.

A friend of H's down the mountain has power, and thus a spare generator, but no booze, we had booze, but no power, so... once the Range Road opened up, we did a little swap and now we have lights and the fridge is running (and we have TV and internet!).

Because we are in a gully, we could hear the wind going over the trees, but we don;t think we got anything more than 100-150 km winds down on the ground.  we had the back windows open for 90% of it.  H says the windows never even rattled.  We also had very little rain.  It's raining harder right now than it did during the storm.

Honestly, we were lucky and slept through most of it.

Thanks for everyones thoughts and concern.  It's nice to log on and see that people care. :-)
