Casino Monte-Carlo

Who's been there?

FI and I are going to France and Monaco this summer and we're planning to go to the Casino Monte-Carlo and will eat there- most likely at Les Prives

I'm getting confused by travel advisor, etc. on what I should wear.  There's people claiming that there were folks in shorts and t-shirts past the point in the casino where that is supposed to be allowed

Anyone been there who can advise? full length gown?  Cocktail dress?

I don't want to wear a gown if people really are dressed that casually and look like a tourist who's watched Casino Royale too many times

I have not been there, but I would wear a cocktail dress purely because it will probably be easier to pack. If I were your H I'd definitely wear a jacket and tie, but even my H who looks for every reason possible to wear his tuxedo probably wouldn't want to pack it and lug it around Europe with him. As long as he has a jacket and tie he'll probably be fine. He can always take the tie off if others are more dressed down.

Agree with Anna.  I've been there.  T-shirts don't cut it.  Definitely dress up.  Some guy tried to park his VW in front of the casino and was asked to leave.  You're in the big leagues there.

Neither of us are too worried about packing a tux or gown- we're bringing a garment bag and only changing hotels one time.  So if packing is not an issue- which would you wear- tux and gown or jacket/tie and cocktail dress?

I've been there too.  If you're casually dressed, you'll be "invited" to play slots in a room closed off from the rest of the casino.  Bring a nice dress.

I think you're fine in a nice jacket and a cocktail dress.

I'm late, but I'm going there too! When will you be there?
I'm packing a sparkly cocktail dress.

I think it depends on what time of day you go there. We went there on our HM (our cruise stopped there), so it was during the day. My H wore a polo and slacks and I wore a nice top and slacks and we were let in to more than just slots. My H made a "donation" to the casino playing roulette and there were other table games. There were definitley people in there in shorts and t-shrits though. Also, if you don't know already, there is a fee just to get into the Casino. But it was a lot of fun and Monaco is beautiful!
