WWYD- work related

I got hired for a teaching job for the fall (yay!) last week. It's a maternity position and the teacher meetings start on Monday. I was contacted by the school district HR last Thursday morning, but alas, my phone was dead and when I called her back in the afternoon, she was already out of the office. She had Friday and Monday off. I called again yesterday and left a voicemail, which said she was in the office. I didn't hear anything back yesterday and haven't heard back today. I just called again, got her voicemail saying she was in the office today, but I didn't leave a message (don't want to be a stalker).

Now, I need to straighten out taxes, background checks, my licensing info, etc with this woman, AND get details about the meetings on Monday. What the heck do you think I should do? Should I leave another message? Should I contact the woman that hired me (even though she is in Beijing for 2 weeks and email is her only form of contact)? Just wait and hope she calls back?

Sigh. Or just tell me to calm down and assure me that everything will be okay.

Calm down.  Everything will be okay!  They hired you; that means they want you.  The rest will fall in line.  :)

Is the woman who hired you in Beijing for business or pleasure?  If it's business, then I wouldn't hesitate to shoot her an e-mail.  If it's pleasure...  well, I might hesitate, but I'd still send it.  She's under no obligation to respond until she gets back, but if she happens to see it while she's away, she might forward it to someone who is in a better position to respond.

I also wouldn't worry about leaving a second message with HR.  Worst case scenario?  You miss the first meeting, but you have the voice mails to prove that you made a good faith effort to initiate contact.  I'm sure she's just busy, with the school year starting up and all; the lack of a call back is no way a reflection of her opinion of you.

Don't worry.  It'll all work out.  And congrats on landing the teaching job!  I know they're really hard to come by these days.
