NWR: Helping plan a baby shower for a friend of mine

.... and I peeked over at the Bump.  Holy crap why did nobody warn me?

Is this place like weddingbee for moms-to-be?  There were all these posts about having the guests address their own thank you notes "because then the mom only has to write the note, stamp it and send it!  Pregnancy is so tiring and that helps so much!"  Also "We are doing pre-printed thank yous and giving them to guests at the shower, because they are just so much work afterwards!"

FFS.  Somebody please explain to me why saving 10 seconds addressing an envelope lightens the burden?  Also why spending time in bed or on the couch with a movie on while you write 20 or 30 thank you notes is a major exertion of energy?

I know thank you notes are my soapbox issue but seriously.  I high-tailed it out of there and won't be going back....

Did you go to the Baby Shower board?  They do NOT advocate that crap.  The ladies of the BSB and the Baby Names board are awesome.

EDIT: The regulars are great, but just like over here, there are those among the crowd that don't offer great advice.  The regs do enjoy hopping on bad etiquette over there - thank you card envelope writing, books instead of cards, extra/optional raffles, etc.

<div>No I was reading the posts on the actual site itself - I was just starting to poke around and read post and post advocating that.  It scared me so much I scampered!</div>

  • ooooooh!!

I guess we can conclude The Bump is about as useful as the The Knot.  The boards are where the rules really are!

Good luck with the baby shower!
  • I wandered over to thebump when I first found out I was pregnant.  I think I lasted about a month.  The regs are sane, but a lot of the other posters are waaaay too crazy.

  • I recently went to a baby shower where we had to address our own envelopes. Then, when the thank you card came, it was not the same envelope I had addressed! I don't know what happened, but I thought that was a weird waste of time and envelopes, then!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
