speech

I am the best man at my brothers wedding. It is a small destination wedding with only about 15 people going. Is it still expected that i give a speech before dinner?

Re: speech

  • I would talk to the groom and find out what he was thinking. If you would like to give a speech/toast, you can offer it to him and tell him that you would like to.

  • I've never heard of speeches before dinner...but I agree, just talk to the B&G about it.
  • You don't give a speech. It's common, though not required, for the best man (and sometimes the MOH) to toast the bride and groom. Ours just said a few words about how much they loved us and wished us the best in our marriage.

  • I think it would be a nice gesture to offer.
  • The first toast is given by the father of the bride, toasting all the people who came to witness and celebrate the marriage.

Then traditionally the best man toasts the couple.  No matter how many people are in attendance, this woman and this man did just get married and it would be very nice for the group to join in a celebratory toast to them, led by you.
