Couple hosting

Hello.

I'd like to know what are the situations when a couple can host their own wedding, and what is the difference in the invitation wording when the couple is paying the wedding.

Thank you

Re: Couple hosting

  • A couple can host their own wedding whenever they want to. Host really means "is paying for." If you both would like to or have to pay for your own wedding, then you are hosting it. I have seen invites done like this in that case:

Jane Smith and John Doe, along with their families, request the honour of your presence........

If you wanted to leave the family part off too, you probably could.

  • We hosted and paid for our own wedding. We simply put "The honor of your presence (used if you are getting married in a church) is requested at the marriage uniting My First Middle Last and Husbands First Middle Last Name. Date Time Place, etc

This is the second marriage for both my FI and I so we are hosting (and paying) for the day ourselves.  Our invites say:

On this day I marry my best friend
the one I laugh with, live for, love

    Valerie X XXXXX
              and
    Jason X XXXXX

    invite you to join them
as they begin their new life together

    date
    time
    location
