For the Bored and Boozed

Anyone have any good crazy roommate stories?

I will start: I had a roommate in college who really wanted my attention. She used to have night terrors and I would have to come over and wake her up. She got really depressed and finally confided to me that she had been raped and that was what the terrors were about. She would talk to me about it, and write me letters about it and finally I told her she needed professional help because it was too much for me. I would come home and she would be on the phone with psychologist so I thought things were getting better. Then she said she found out the guy who raped her was in prison and had HIV, so she asked me to get tested for HIV with her. I did and she cried to the people who took her sample and told them her story. I started coming home and she would be asleep in my bed. It was really weird. Then she went to a church retreat and told me she had a confession to tell me. It turns out she had made everything up to get my attention! Even the night terrors and phone calls to psychologist were fake!  That's my craziest story.

I had a roommate who once hit my then boyfriend (and also roommate) in the head with a frying pan during a fight which sent him to the hospital to get his head stapled together. What were we fighting about? I told her I was going to turn on the AC since it was 90 outside and when I went to turn it on she shoved me aside and ripped it off the wall, then swung at then bf. Yeah...she was a nutter butter...
  • I had a roommate for two years who walked/talked in her sleep.  When I walked in the room at night, she would often sit straight up in bed with her eyes open and it freaked me out.  Sometimes she'd come over and wake me up telling me that she had to get out of there.  I liked her, but she did freak me out a lot.

  • I had a crazy housemate who was insanely messy and inconsiderate, but nothing on your story!
  • Let's see...then there was the roomie who was an insanely obsessive neat freak, which was a very bad combination with me (I'm a clutter monster). She would also randomly talk to herself with things such as "Hello Christie, how are you today, I'm good thanks. Did we finish our homework last night? I think we did." Yeah, crazy talking to herself. She would also invite her bf (my friend) over to have sex at night, until I started throwing socks at them and then she started going to his place (he had no roommate).

Or then there was the roomie who was pregnant 3 times in 4 years....or the one who only took a shower once a week to conserve water...or...
  • Nothing like these stories, but BF and I did let one of my (ex) good friends and her husband stay with us for a little while. Besides the usual mess/loud/inconsiderate complaints, he also once peed in our kitchen sink instead of using either of the 2 bathrooms in the apartment.

My roommates were pretty standard. We did once live in the apartment above some sorrority girls that had a cocaine problem. They would blast their music at 1 am and then become confused when we came down to tell them to turn it down because they thought it was only 9 pm. One time we had to go downstairs because we heard a constant banging. It was 3 am, and one of the girls was hammering into the wall to put up pictures. She was wearing a toga and another toga clad girl was sleeping in a heap in the middle of the floor. Weird.

Edit: At that same place, one of my roommates was angry at the other one and so she bought about a dozen cow tongues and placed them all over her bathroom. In the toilet, sink, bath tub... Weird, but the cokeheads were the most memorable part of that living experience.
  • I had a crazy roommate in college that went around telling people that she dated my FI (then BF) for awhile and how awkward it was to live with his new GF.  I had no idea she was doing this until one of the other roommates asked me how I was dealing with the "awkwardness" and then it all came out.  She had told people they had this whole elaborate relationship and all of it was completely not true.  They never went on a single date.

This same roommate also got into a huge fight with one of the other roommates (there were 4 of us total) and she didn't talk to her for the remaining 7 months of the lease, I mean not one word.

There are more crazy stories about her but too long to get into but also doesn't compare to some of these!  She wasn't legitimately crazy but just self-absorbed and couldn't stand not being the center of attention.  So she would lie and just tell these ridiculous stories for attention/pity.
  • I have a roommate right now who has loud sex with his gf and plays guitar hero really loud at night. He is in a "band" and they practice together on the video game Rock Star. Plus he is tone deaf but  since the game only knocks points if you don't hit  key (regardless of tone) he thinks he is god's gift to singing. ew.

My college roommate had a legitimate orgy in our room. I woke up in my bunk bed (top bunk - thank god I couldn't see anything) and I hear 4 people f*cking below me. It was by far one of the most uncomfortable experiences. And it wasn't like I could just leave. I would have had to climb down among them...
  • My 3 roommates (who used to be my best friends) decided to band together and start drama by making up things I allegedly said about each one of them.  They communicated with me by posting post-its on my door...even when I was home in the apartment.  Oh and this happened after I signed the lease to live with them my senior year as well.  Yeah...it sucked big time.

My second roommate was an obsessive dieter/marathon runner. I, on the other hand, would eat entire packs of oreos in one sitting.

Background info: I have a perfectly fine body, not stick thin, but I think I look good naked, so I was fairly confident in my body.

This roommate though was constantly counting calories, she looked emaciated to be honest. She would constantly discuss what bodies "should" look like. One day she explained to me how I could shed my "unwanted" fat. It involved only eating two pieces of bread a day, and cutting out all these major food groups. Like potatoes. And beef. Not okay. Anyway I just ignored her, but the other girls in our suite couldn't understand how I stood it.
  • Reading these makes me so thankful that FI and I will have our own place soon.
  • I have had some awful roommates.

First apartment, one of the girls was on tons of medications... medications that didn't mix well with alcohol. One night, she was so drunk, she hit my other roommater over the head with a Captian Morgan bottle and broke our neighbors toe.

Second apartment was with my then best friend. Nothing insane happened while living together, but let's just say, for the last 6 months, we didn't talk once. Talk about weird.

My last apartment before moving in with my FI was probably the worst. Two of my roommates were boy crazy... Mind you, they were both 24 and acting like teenagers. Evernight they'd bring a different guy home and compete to see who could have the loudest sex that night. My room was inbetween BOTH of theirs... I eventually got freaked out by all the guys, that my FI started to spend most of the nights with me. The guys were shady.. They got drunk every night. I once asked them if they could not bring home loads of people the night before my finals, and they acted as if I had insulted them the worst way possible!

  • My first roommate after moving out of the dorms was one of my good friends from high school.  She was allowed to change the thermostat in our apartment, but I was not. If I touched it, she would have a complete meltdown and SCREAM at me.

She was super messy and always left her dishes all over the place. I finally resorted to only using paper plates and cups because I was not willing to clean up her mess. I would frequently hear her crying hysterically on the phone with her mom about how I never helped with the dishes..the dishes that belonged to only her.

She had a horrible little dog that I swear was the spawn of Satan. She refused to crate him while we weren't home, and he destroyed everything in sight. He was literally eating the couch little by little every day.  One day I came home to discover that he had eaten my phone charger and the cord to my lamp and DVD player that were in the living room.  I suppose it was my own fault for allowing my things to be in the living room, but she refused to pay for his damage because "my parents would just buy me new ones." That leads to the last item...

She was completely bitter because my parents didn't want me working while I was in college, so they gave me money and paid for all my expenses. When we would meet people and they would ask what we did, she would chime in before I could even speak and say "Oh, she doesn't have a job. Her parents pay for everything" in an attempt to make me look like a complete tool.  Yeah...she was a joy to live with.
  • Miss.jawright, wow you poor thing!  Katie, I just laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes.  Where did you find these people? LOL.  I have to say that I had many roommates, but luckily no horror stories!

I lived with an "journalist" (I dunno, never saw him write one word) who was dating a sixteen-year-old girl.  I moved out when he asked her to move in with him (from her parents' to his apt).  Yikes.
