Shower hostess gifts

So my shower is about 2 weeks away, and I picked up some cute gifts for the hostesses. I am wondering whether I give them the gifts at the beginning of the shower, at end of the shower, the day after, etc? I've been to a couple showers now but I have never seen anybody actually give their hostess a gift, so I'm not sure what the proper timing should be. I will also write a thank you note after the fact of course.

Thanks!

Re: Shower hostess gifts

  • I've never seen one.  But I think perhaps before you start opening gifts would be a good time to thank everyone for coming and to thank the hostesses for hosting.  Then I'd open gifts (again thanking everyone as you go along).  I'd give the hostess gifts privately after the shower.
  • I would not present the gifts during the shower- either when you arrive (most likely before most of the guests) or at the end when most of the guests have left. As a guest I would find it weird to see a guest of honor give a thank you gift in the middle of their own party.
  • I wouldn't give it during the shower. Maybe once everyone else is gone and cleaning up?

This is what I did. We [couples shower] arrived before most guests, so we handed out our hostess gifts when we first got there. IIRC, they put them with their purses didn't open them until after the event was over.

  • I gave mine after the shower; like a day or two after. (though I shipped them directly to the hosts' houses).  Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like the thank you gift should come with a thank you note; and you can't really thank them for the awesome party they threw if you haven't been to the party yet.  I suppose you could just give the gift without the note and mail the note later if you're concerned you won't see them and want to save on shipping....

  • I had never really heard of shower hostess gifts before this, so I just got my BMs a bottle of B&BW shower gel and wrote a cute note about how I hope they enjoy their shower as much as I did mine.  I gave it to them after most of the guests had left and they were cleaning up.

<div>Literally laughed out loud at that! </div><div>
</div><div>My bridal shower was a surprise. I honestly didn't even know about hostess gifts until way after the fact, so my 5 bridesmaids who hosted it didn't receive one from me. But, they received a really heartfelt thank you note for hosting it, along with thanking them for any gift they gave me that day. </div>

Thanks!  I can't take credit.  One of the girls on my month board told us about the idea and I borrowed it because our group of friends doesn't usually do hostess gifts so I didn't want it to be elaborate.  Even with this they were suprised and grateful.

  • It isn't wrong to give a shower hostess a hostess gift-but hostess gifts for all occasions are generally done discreetly, away from the guests, so that may be why you haven't seen it.
  • i am honestly not suppose to know about mine but my mom told me to keep a date open. i am not sure if i should get these people throwing the shower gifts for after. i know my mom received a gift from a girl at her church for hosting her surprise shower but that was the day before her wedding

  • Thanks ladies!  I will be in town all weekend, so I may drop the gifts off on their porch the next day before I leave town.  I figured giving the gifts to them in front of guests would be weird and awkward, so I'll make sure to do it out of sight.

I totally stole this idea today :) I got a scrubby and loofah, and packaged them up with lush soap, shower gel and a bath bomb, done! Thanks for sharing ;)
