Question on cake...

I know it isn't really E related, but I'd rather ask it here.  Until yesterday I had never heard of Rice Crispy Cakes, then I googled them and they are kinda cute.  FI was all over it. I think they are cute but for wedding cakes I am on the fence. So what is popular opinion on the Rice Crispy Cakes?  Tacky or snacky?

Re: Question on cake...

  • Theyre sort of tasty if I'm in the mood - but I have to be in the mood.  I'd skip.

  • My cousin had one 2 weeks ago.  I think if it fits in the theme of your wedding then do what you wish.  Hers was really adorable, they had a rustic, covered wagon sort of barn theme to their reception.  You could always have a sheet cake to cut as an option for guests if you were worried someone would miss getting cake.

    Here was their cake:

  • I love rice krispy treats as a snack but I wouldn't do this is the only cake at a wedding reception.  I think it's a cute substitute for a groom's cake or as another alternative if you do a dessert buffet.  I'm not really sure why though - maybe my fear that if not properly made and stored you'd have a huge chunk of dry, unedible cereal.

  • I would have them in addition to something else, if you want them.  You could have them as part of a fondue display on a dessert bar or in addition to cake.  That would be tasty.

I have never heard of a rice krispie treat as a rice krispy cake.  I didn't even know this was a thing.  Interesting.

I think Rice Krispie treats are *great*, but I wouldn't let that be the only option.
  • I have never heard of this. But I wouldnt want to be eating with my hands when I am all dressed up for a wedding.  I agree with others, I dont think it should be your only option.

  • I agree. It'd be cute as an addition but not as the main dessert
  • I have a cake already although Stack I love that one it is cute.  I was just wondering what everyone thought of it.  I had just ran accross it last night.  I think it would be good ~in addition, but not the only thing.

  • I would love to go to a wedding with a rice krispy cake.
  • Looks cute, and I love rice krispies, but I wouldn't do it for the main cake.  Maybe the groom's cake?
  • I know that we probably won't have cake at our wedding(still a few yrs out) because my FH doesn't like cake. You had hundreds of delious cakes and plain cheesecake for him to pick for his dessert options, he will always pick cheesecake. We've talked about doing lots of cheesecakes and a dessert/fondue bar with pound cakes, fruits, rice krispy treats, etc. We were at a wedding this year where they had a small round cake they cut, than they put out ice cream cakes, they had about 4 different selections and that was a big hit. I always like when guests have options vs the bride/groom deciding on one or two flavors.

</div><div>I went to a stunning wedding last year that had a cheesecake buffet for desserts. They also had a savory cheesecake on their buffet. But the desserts were fantastical. It was like 6 different cheesecakes, and they had fresh fruit toppings for the plain one. If I didn't already have someone doing my cake, I would have done that. </div><div>

[QUOTE]Nothing wrong with that. I went to a <strong>giant-cookie-wedding-cale wedding</strong>. We didn't have cake.  We had pecan cobbler. It was a huge hit with the guests.

  • If FI had his way we would have pecan pie.  I mentioned this to my mother today during or morning wedding briefing (ha ha no really she does this) anyway she was like "mmmkay" then started texting me hours later "OO I love this idea!!" lol Now I don't think I will be able to stop her.

My sister married about 12 years ago, his groom's cake was a treat in an old VW Bug shape. It was fun, it was personal (two of his personal favs) but I have a difficult time picturing this as a wedding cake

  • I've been making wedding cakes for 30 years and have only done tiered Rice Krispie Treat cakes for groom's cakes. The plan was that they were going to be eaten later after the reception by the bridal party & their friends. I think they'd work fine with on a dessert table or as an addition to a regular wedding cake.
