Sort of OT - Attire for Vow Renewal

What is acceptable for the wife to wear to a vow renewal?  My wedding was a two second affair at the courthouse in a ponytail and jeans (we had to cancel our planned wedding; our daughter had urgent surgery).  I don't think wearing a wedding dress is appropriate, of course, but would it be in poor taste to wear a pale color or champagne colored dress?  Can I be dressy provided it's not a floor length wedding gown?  Can it be floor length if it's not ornate?  I know this is sort of an opinion rather than an etiquette issue... I'd like to have some lovely photos taken since I have none of our wedding day, but I don't want to overdress since this is not my wedding.

Thoughts?

PS I know vow renewals are frowned upon by many on here.  I do want photos, but this is not a do-over wedding.  We just want to do more than sign our names on paper.  I'd rather not disclose some of the reasons why to rationalize our choice, but I am not the same person now that I was then.  I'm healthy now (and our daughter is healthy now) and I want to say vows to my husband.

</div><div>Vow renrewals are not frowned upon here, it's the PPDs and do-over weddings that are frowned upon. It doesn't sound like you're doing that so you're good <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><div>
</div><div>I see no reason for you not to wear a lovely champagne/light-coloured dress for your vow renewal; the length is completely up to you. The only way I can see it being in poor taste if it's a full-on wedding dress.</div></div><div>

My advice would be: 1. Match attire to your venue. You'd look a bit out of place in a sequined cocktail dress if your ceremony is at the local park 2. Match to your age. Don't wear a promstyle dress from the juniors section, etc 3. Wear what makes you happy
  • I think a pale colored gown would be lovely. It's the do-over that's frowned upon. I think you should match the formality of your venue though. So, if the party is in a park, I'd stick to the realm of tea length or cocktail dresses. It sounds like you'll have a lovely day!
