NWR: Master's Research Paper/OMG/WTFBBQ

has anyone done one of these before? I'm literally freaking the fluck out. The class opened YESTERDAY at 3 PM and 4 people have already submitted the first two pages that aren't due until next week. I couldn't get into the class until today at 3 pm, and I don't even UNDERSTAND the first assignment, much less have it done.

FREAKING.OUT.

[QUOTE]Overachievers freak everyone out. Also, just because they submitted something super duper early doesn't mean they did it correctly.

    <div>True that. </div><div>
</div><div>It just also really worries me that I don't even understand what I'm supposed to do. The example has all of this baseline data from a school, and how am I supposed to get that? Rhetorical, but man. I need someone to hold my hand which is totally the opposite of how I'm supposed to be at this point in my master's.</div>

  • Don't pay attention to what other people are doing.  Just do the assignment before it's due, and do a good job, and you'll be fine.

<div>You're right, I don't need to pay attention to what others are doing. It only stresses me out.</div>

[QUOTE]Is it data you could get from your school or district?<strong> I would email the professor and ask where the raw data is supposed to come from.</strong> My master's program was the same way.  After the courses were done, we were told: "Write a research-based thesis and find a professor to approve it. Have fun!" I ended up cold-calling a professor to see if I could work in her lab and do thesis work. Lluckily, free student labor fits into most lab budgets. It was totally different from undergrad where we were still getting instructions on how to fill out a scantron as seniors.

<div>This is what I did. It is definitely data I can get from the school, but not on this short notice. The assignment is due on Tuesday, meaning I'd have to find data tomorrow or Friday. No school on Monday.</div>

  • Good luck Whit   I hope you can get it pulled together or that the prof can give you some guidance/clarification.

Oh, man, I know just what you are going through.  We recieved the first few lab assignments for a new class today, and they are using a software that I am almost entirely unfamiliar with, but which is commonly used in allied fields to mine.  I heard 2 students in the common workspace laughing about how easy the assignments are (they are meant to catch people like me, who have never worked with the software, up) and how they had already started them.  I hate this software from my very limited exposure to it, and just opening it practically puts me in tears.  Also, no one likes an eager beaver new grad student because the rest of us are so jaded from too long in research and have, you know, work to do 24/7 instead of just class.  Relax, do the assignments as they are due (usually, for me, this means the night before they are due), and just focus on yourself.
  • thanks loopy!

Good to know I'm not the only one brought to tears just by opening the assignment haha. I am going to just take my time and submit on Tuesday.
