Suggestions please!

H's uncle passed away suddenly last night and has been running around all day doing a helping out my brother(he wanted to stay busy).  I know he hasn't had a chance to really let it all sink in and he will be home in a couple hours.  He has a sweet tooth and I kind of wanted to make him a little something sweet and comforting for when he comes home.  Does anyone know of any easy desserts with plain old pantry ingredients?  I'm out of chocolate chips unfortunately, but I have other regular baking stuff.  I'm kind of lost without the chocolate!

Any suggestions would be awesome.

  • Do you have peanut butter?  How about some peanut butter cookies?

    Sorry for the loss.
  • Oh peanut butter! Great idea, thanks!

  • it might seem silly, but graham crackers with powdered sugar frosting are a HUGE comfort food in my book.

  • Thanks for the well wishes.  I feel awful for his family.  He wasn't even 50.  He was at a christmas party and was complaining of bad heartburn.  He and his wife decided to leave and he just died in the driveway.  He was apparently having a heart attack.  It will be a tough week for sure.

  • OH MY GOD Snshne. They are SUPER easy and absolutely delicious. They remind me of afterschool snacks from when I was a kid that my mom would make.

  • She'd actually make them into sandwiches. half a graham cracker, frosting, other half. Scarf.

  • We used to make graham cracker sandwiches with chocolate frosting (duncan hines or something).  Super Yum!
  • I have no recipes to add, just wanted to say that I am so sorry for your loss.
  • I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.  :(

I scrounged through my pantry tonight and will be making oatmeal cookies.
  • I'm impressed with people who have pantries.

If I had to scronge something together, Scott would be getting olives with ketchup and a slice of cheese. :/

Hey, I'm perfectly fine with eating olives and cheese.  Not sure about the ketchup though...
  • Yep. I'd have to give mine a limp carrot, some white wine and a bit of hard toast with brown banana.

I'm so sorry about the uncle. My dad's brother is in intensive care since the weekend and they are not sure if he'll make it. My heart goes out to you.
