If you could build your dream reception hall....

What would you include? Wood floors or neutral carpet? Lots of windows or just a few? Wallpaper or white walls? Give me your top ideas!

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

Wood floors, lots of windows, neutral walls, lots of natural wood (wood beamed ceilings, for example).

Oh wait, I just described the one I booked...

Honestly, though, the only thing I'd change about my venue is how the patio overlooks the tennis courts. A garden would be nicer, but it IS a tennis club...

Other than that, my dream venue would be one of those fancy ballrooms in movies about royalty or guilded age robber barons.

There's SO much variety in reception venues. You have to go with what works well for your style and your area.

• Mine would have a magical unicorn names Charlie. And there would be liquor dispensers in the bathroom where the toilet paper usually goes.

• Mine would have secret passage ways, a ferris wheel, and a shark tank. Definitely a shark tank.
• I'm hanging out in CEW's venue... especially if the sharks have laser beams attached to their heads.

• Fricken lasers.
• Seriously though, there's a place near DC that would have been my dream venue but it was booked already (damn 6 month engagement). It is a bumper car pavillion in an old amusement park.

TK featured a gorgeous wedding there: http://weddings.theknot.com/Real-Weddings/25645/view.aspx?type=1&id=25645

1. Sand
2. Ocean
3. soft breeze
4. sunset.
5. a palm tree or two.

Et voila nothing to build.

[QUOTE]My dream venue was the Rotunda at the Science Museum of Virginia ... its cost $3000 just to rent the damn thing! So that was a negatory.

There's also a gorgeous remodeled rotunda in a museum in LA that cost $14,000 to rent. Other ideas I had to abandon? A beautiful urban park in Beverly Hills (that already had tables and chairs, and a fountain) that was $4,500 plus some other fees, and the grounds of a state run historic site in Malibu that overlooked the ocean and cost $6,000. Just to use the grounds.
