Honoring Grandparents

Hello ladies!  I have been lurking a bit and have found a lot of helpful advice on this board.  My name is Lauren and I'm having a destination wedding 6/4/2011.

Our wedding date is also what would've been my grandparent's 61st wedding anniversary.  I was extremely close with my grandmother and she passed away a few years ago.  I'd like to do something to recognize them whether it's in our ceremony or at our reception and am wondering if you have any suggestions.

TIA

  • Payton is super cute! Is that a boxer? Or a puggle?

You could put something in your programs in the way of a memoriam and mention that you chose their wedding date. You could have a display of family wedding photos and display their wedding dates. You could also have something of hers as your something old.

  • Maybe you could dance to their first dance song?

Oooh, yes, that! That's an awesome idea. If you have something in mind already, you could use it for a slow dance or for an anniversary dance, too.

  • ITs really sweet you're getting married on their anniv. As pp's said, mention something in the program or dancing to their first song is super sweet. You could also place their wedding photo and some other photos of them on your guest book or favor table.
  • Love the idea of dancing to their first dance!

We are doing a memory table near our guest book with pictures.  I am also having a special floral arraignment made with green roses for my grandpa and snap dragons and lily of the valley for my grandma.

Thanks ladies.  These are all great suggestions!  I am sure my great-aunt will remember their wedding song - I love that idea!   May also wear something of hers as my something old.  All great ideas! :)

Payton is a puggle - she's 2 and I love her to death.  A lot of people who see her though ask if she's a puppy boxer!

  • My grandma used to bake all of the time.  She had a modified puppy chow recipe that she broke out for only a few things: Christmas and extremely important events (graduations, milestone birthdays).

The first time I made it solo was over the phone with her at midnight (she was awesome like that), the second time about a month after she died.

We're breaking out her recipe for the favors.  Since part of her process for making it is freezing it, we can actually make the batches three weeks ahead of time and freeze it without worrying.
